POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Youth Development, and in harmony with the established policies, goals and objectives of the YMCA of Avery County, the After School Site Lead will be responsible for the daily supervision of after-school program participants. They are responsible for planning, developing, and implementation of all components and program activities in the after-school program. The Site Lead guides the academic and social development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. They use a variety of resources, as guided and provided by the Director of Youth Development, to introduce new skills throughout the execution of activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and other staff members. Be a positive role model.
2. Designs and implements quality program curriculum and lesson plans of the daily program, including arts and crafts, active games, and snack.
3. Oversees vital record-keeping including daily attendance, incident reports, supply requests, and newsletter information.
4. Ensures quality supervision the children, classroom, and all activities. Maintains that children are never left alone: all children are watched at all times.
5. Maintains a physically and mentally safe environment for all children.
6. Establish practices for positive reinforcement and disciplinary needs of children.
7. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child, keeping written records as needed to reflect student progress and support program data reporting.
8. Maintains effective communication with parents. Conducts parent conferences as needed, and works to engage parents as volunteers.
9. Actively support and participate in YMCA functions as notified by the Director of Youth Development, ensure that counselors are made aware of their responsibilities when applicable.
10. Attend all required staff meetings and give input on programming issues.
11. Follow and enforce Association and departmental policies, including the substitute policy, ensuring that counselors are made aware of and abiding by their responsibilities when applicable.
12. Making the Director of Youth Development aware of substitute needs at your program site as required.
13. Actively pursue training and learning opportunities and certifications relating to the position. Maintain current certifications required by the position.
14. Is committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment
15. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
16. Attends required abuse risk management training.
17. Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
18. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
19. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
20. Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred, working towards a degree in: Education, Child Development, Psychology, or Social Work.
- At least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- At least one-year experience working with children in a developmental setting is required.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
