Agricultural/Food Scientist II
Doctoral degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field; or a master’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.
Conduct Sensory Tests
Responsible for the Sensory Testing operation. This includes but not limited to manage workers, recruitment, hire, training and approve time. Recruit and screen panelist that meet the search criteria. Receiving and cataloging samples, determine if samples are sufficient for human consumption. Prepare and store food products using good laboratory practices. Conduct research and consumer sensory panels by following the protocol for each test to insure compliance.
Management of FSHN Sensory Taste Panel. Student workers. Hire, schedule, and manage 20 plus student assistants. Train workers to maintain a clean work environment and protocols involving safe food preparation practices, including cutting, and serving food.
Data Analysis and Discussion of Results
Collect and study data with statistical software to identify trends and compare to desired results. Communicate research findings or project results to supervisor, food companies and other researchers at UF to determine if results meet the research criteria.
Panelist Compensation and Billing
Comply with grant criteria and IRB for the compensation of taste panelist. Coordinate the compensation of panelists when panelist task is complete.
Prepare invoices to food companies in compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreed payment schedule. Ensure that payments are made and credited to the proper account.
Develop Questionnaires to Meet Research Objectives
Working closely with food companies, students and UF researchers to develop sensory surveys for the desired population using using survey software and carefully constructed questionnaires.
Purchasing and Budgeting
Purchasing supplies and equipment for sensory testing
Assist with the management of budgets related to sensory testing
Management of Laboratories
Purchasing supplies and equipment
Maintain laboratory in clean and good working conditions
Assist graduate students with their research
Assist in maintaining test kitchen in good working order

$53,000-$56,000; Commensurate with education and experience

The ability to communicate frequently with researchers from the food industry and UF. Mentor undergraduate students and provide to graduate students as needed.
Food Safety, storage and sanitation is essential for the health and safety of panelists and sensory panel workers.

This is a time-limited position. Time limited positions are based on circumstances, such as funding sources, which control the length of time for which the position is available.
This position is a .5 FTE, working 20 hours per week.
