Agriculturist

Summary

This position provides agronomic expertise to growers in the production of a high-quality sugar beet crop to maximize the recoverable sugar per acre.

Essential Job Duties

  • Make recommendations to assist growers in the production of a high-quality sugar beet crop and to maximize recoverable sugar per acre while minimizing production costs
  • Maintain current knowledge of new research and technological changes to ensure growers receive up-to-date information on sugar beet production
  • Assist in the implementation of new technologies and methodologies in crop production
  • Assist growers with planting and harvest equipment and improved techniques of each to maximize sugar recovery per acre.
  • Ensure Patron compliance of company policies and requirements
  • Hire, train, and supervise employees at receiving stations during harvest and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Serve as the primary communication link between Patrons and Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative Leadership
  • Work efficiently with all departments at Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative to carry out the total team effort mission for Patrons
  • Work with other sugar beet companies, university extension personnel, agriculture chemical representatives and sugar beet seed representatives to improve sugar beet production for Patrons
  • Assist with sugar beet storage pile monitoring
  • Complete administrative tasks, duties, and reports as required in a timely manner
  • Other duties as required by the business
  • Adhere to all company policies and all safety, food safety, feed safety, and sanitation rules and programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Agronomy, Crop and Weed Science, Soil Science, Agriculture Education, Food Science Technology, Agriculture Economics, or a related field
  • Two to three years of experience in agriculture-related field.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Embraces teamwork
  • Detail oriented
  • Self-motivated and organized with excellent time management skills
  • Strong Computer Technology skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with Patrons and fellow employees at all levels
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Expertise in an agriculture related field
  • Mechanical ability during planting and harvest and to assist Patrons with machinery settings and adjustments.
  • Ability to work with seed, fertilizers, and registered crop protection products
  • Ability to work outside daily in extreme conditions during the summer and occasionally during the winter months
  • Ability to work with scale house printers and indicators, smart phones, acre measures/monitors, GPS/satellite imaging system for measuring fields
  • Ability to operate a skid steer loader
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Leadership/Supervision skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
