MD Architects is seeking an experience architect to work in close partnership within one of our studio directors that will fulfill projects successfully on budget and on time for our clientele in our Kirkland, Washington office.

The MDA portfolio concentrates on animal healthcare and related human healthcare fields, including laboratories and dental clinics. Our sizable focus is large specialty and emergency animal hospitals, that may include complete surgery, ophthalmology, CT, MRI, and radiation oncology suites. We deliver specialized animal hospital design with the complexities and services to rival human medicine. The Role:

This role requires broad architectural experience, a combination of excellent project management, communication and strong organizational skills, as well as and being able to work in an active environment and able to draw from deep creative thinking as MDA has a unique work environment – a non-traditional design studio made up of professionals working together to serve a healthy pipeline of organic growth in an exciting and expanding market. The position is in Kirkland, Washington and is required to be in the office. 100% remote work is not an option.

As an architect, the role would require various duties including:

· Project management: Manage at minimum 2-3 projects continuously in the design and construction phase of projects, including administration of construction services and design and construction professionals.

· Design: Prepare schematics, design development, and construction drawings, including all necessary details.

· Project Budgeting: Adhere to time and cost budgets for both design and construction.

· Collaboration: Coordinate consultant work and participate in meetings with clients and consultants

· Site visits/travel: Visit building worksites to ensure work is being done according to architectural plans. The estimated travel would be less than once a month.

· Additional responsibilities would include coordinating the research of building and local codes, generating preliminary design schedules and selecting, evaluating, and implementing architectural procedures and techniques and sharing across the team.

· This position works daily with the Studio Director and closely with the VP of Design.

Special Note. Many of our projects serve the veterinarian and pet clinic market. Working around small pets and animals may be an occasional occurrence. These environments can have pet dander and hair.

Communications:

· Own responsibility for team communications and employee engagement.

· Coordinate closely with Senior Management across all locations (Boston, Indianapolis, and Seattle) to ensure communications are consistent and efficient.

· Conforming with professional standards of practice for company communications, including internal meetings, collaboration tool use, and process change.

· Participate in all-hands meetings, publish minutes, and coordinate follow-up on action items as required.

Experience & Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture

· 10 – 12 years min post-college experience with an architectural design firm

· Architectural license required.

· Proficient Bluebeam, MS Office Suite

· Advanced knowledge of Revit

· Proficient with building codes and standards

· Proficient with Comcheck building envelope reports

· Significant amount of Project management experience.

· Personal love for animals is preferred but not required.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Ability to manage your own time and recognize priority of tasks within the team

· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with team members, clients and consultants in-person and via written communications

· Develop schematic designs in collaboration with project team

· Ability to learn and apply technical and design elements

· Ability to listen and absorb critical information for project-based and administrative directions

· Ability to lead meetings and communicate professionally with clients

· Create and maintain a project schedule / budget as outlined per project

· Coordinate with MEP, Structural, and Civil engineers per project and resolve basic issues

· Coordinate with product reps for requirements, specifications, and to resolve basic issues

· Able to work independently with nominal instructions

· Ability to prepare full construction documentation with minimal assistance for complex details

· Ability to lead the permitting / bidding processes with minor assistance from leadership

· Ability to write project manual specifications is preferred

· Assist the Construction Administrator / perform Construction Administration tasks

· Ability to independently develop basic exterior details and overall wall sections

· Develop miscellaneous architectural details for other projects as needed.

· Able to function as a valuable resource for colleagues with less experience

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

Salary Range: starting at $80k -$90k annually
