Assistant Director

Assistant Directors play an integral role in leading our centers to success. As an Assistant Director, you will educate parents, teachers, and leaders on the value of early childhood education and make that value come to life for the children in your center.

When you join our team as an Assistant Center Director, you will:

• Assist the Center Director in leading teaching staff, supporting families, and achieving enrollment, and operational objectives
• Partner with parents with a shared desire to provide the best care and education for their children
• Cultivate positive relationships with families, teachers, state licensing authorities, community contacts, and corporate partners
• Serve in various roles throughout the center as needed, including teacher, cook, and or driver

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

• Be 18 years old
• Minimum of 20 ECE credits towards Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; AND willingness to be on an Education Plan to complete the full education requirements of State Certificate (47 credits) or AA in Early Childhood or related field.
• At least 2 years teaching children, or 2 years experience in administration or management
• Ability to work within a team and to work effectively with other people
• Ability to communicate in English in a professional and positive manner
• Familiarity with Early Achievers standards, CLASS and ERS scales

Preferred Qualifications:

• Over the age of 25 years old
• Associates degree or higher in early childhood education or related field; 12 ECE credits minimum to apply
• 3 or more years experience working with children in a childcare setting
• 1 year supervising teachers and staff

Essential Functions:

• Plan the program to meet the needs of the individual child with concerns for their interests, disabilities, special talents, cultural background and individual styles.
• Plan/set up classroom with well-defined interest areas. Set up toys/materials so that they are accessible to children. Support teachers in their understanding of the environment as an additional teacher
• Ensure appropriate guidance techniques and current lesson plans are implemented in the classroom.
• Support development of individual care plans for supporting individual needs of children.
• Supervise, interact and play with children during assigned times of responsibilities, providing high quality engagement and interactions in the classroom.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, clean and healthy environment; administer first aid and handle emergencies.
• Assist with toileting, diapering and hygiene needs of children as needed.
• Establish/maintain positive communication with families, children and staff.
• Maintain all center records in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Provide direction to lead teachers, childcare assistants, temporary staff and volunteers.
• Participate in positive teacher-to-teacher communication on a regular basis for the overall success of the classrooms and center.
• Participate regularly in staff meetings, professional development programs and workshops. This may require occasional Saturday availability.
• Ensure child assessments are completed as required throughout the program year. We use Ages and Stages (ASQ), and Teaching Strategies GOLD in our program, with Creative Curriculum as the foundation.
• Support and follow the direction of the Center Director.
• Follow USDA guidelines (including meal counts and service procedures).
• Maintain compliance with company policies/procedures, program standards and
• state licensing requirements.
• Other duties as assigned to support Children’s Village – BR, Inc. and Children’s Village – Salmon Creek, Inc..

Schedule:

This position is full-time, with options for 8 hour depending on program needs, approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday or as scheduled by the Director, between the hours of 630am and 6pm. This position is year-round.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Travel to/between Children’s Village centers and training sites as required
• Excellent attendance during scheduled work hours, required meetings and training
• May be required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to attend to children's needs and to provide learning activities.
• May be required to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.

Employment Requirements (may be completed after hire; financial assistance provided):

• Valid certification in CPR, first aid, HIV/Blood Borne Pathogens training and current food handler's card. (can be completed after hire)
• Valid TB test completed within the previous twelve months prior to starting.
• Participation in the State Training and Registry System (STARS) program required.
• Initial Child Care Basic training to be completed as soon as a cohort is available.
• Ten hours of continuing education required annually per childcare licensing requirements.
• Meet current DCYF immunization standards and be able to provide records of immunization.

• Successful completion of a portable background check and fingerprint clearance through DCYF- Beginning January 1st, 2024 you MUST have a cleared background check prior to starting. We will interview and make job offers and start dates would be based on cleared background check.

Pay and Benefits:

Ranging from $22/hour -$26.00/hour starting, depending on education, experience and qualifications.
