Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The Office of Global Diversity and Inclusion is the central division that leads and facilitates the continuous quest for inclusive excellence at Portland State University. We structure our ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion journey through student support and programs, equity and compliance, diversity advocacy, and diversity education and learning.

Position Summary
The NASCC Assistant Director provides leadership to the Native American Student & Community Center (NASCC), and is responsible for the hiring, evaluation, and supervision of the Coordinator of Native American Student Services and other center staff. This position is crucial in managing the center’s daily operations, including contributing to fundraising initiatives, supporting assessment, marketing, and public relations efforts, as well as other assigned responsibilities. The Assistant Director collaborates with and supports Global Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) leadership in advancing fundraising efforts and strategic initiatives.
The Assistant Director ensures the NASCC remains a welcoming and inclusive space that celebrates and supports the success of Native American, Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander students, and their allies through culturally relevant programming, academic support, and intergenerational community engagement.
In addition to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive environment where Native and Indigenous students, employees, and communities, along with other diverse and multicultural groups, feel embraced and valued, the Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing facility stewardship. This includes managing scheduling, marketing, booking, and billing processes for events, and developing efficient operational procedures. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with institutional and educational tribal relations, as well as the Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion, to support sovereignty initiatives and foster engagement with Native and Indigenous communities. Additionally, the Assistant Director builds strong relationships with campus departments such as ITEK, student services, and community organizations, positioning the NASCC as a premier venue for meetings, conferences, and gatherings
Reporting to the Executive Director of Multicultural Student Services, who shares supervisor responsibilities with the AVP of GDI, the Assistant Director plays a critical role in advancing the mission of the Cultural Resource Centers (CRCs) and the Global Diversity & Inclusion (GDI) division, working closely with the Assistant Director of CRCs and Assistant Director of Multicultural Retention Services to ensure alignment and coordination of building operations, SFC-funded co-curricular programming and multicultural academic support. This collaboration aims to enhance student engagement and sense of belonging, while honoring the NASCC’s commitment to inter-tribal connections through tradition, ceremony, and storytelling.
