SUMMARY: Brings the different elements of complex recreational activities into a relationship that ensures efficiency, effectiveness, and harmony amongst the staff, participants, and volunteers. Utilizes, improves, and develops (when required) written processes to ensure existing organizational knowledge is sustained and used to effectively plan, budget, market, implement, and evaluate recreational activities. The Assistant Supervisor's primary focus is Morgan Sports Center & Destin Sports Complex-based activities; they will, however, be involved in activities based at other facilities throughout the city of Destin.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate commitment to Team Destin and our mission, vision, values, and goals and represents the city in a professional, dignified manner at all times both in actions and appearance.
  • Contribute to the development and accomplishment of home teamwork plans.
  • Demonstrate competent knowledge of all applicable policies, codes, ordinances, regulations and statutes.
  • Demonstrate competent knowledge of all divisional Key Functions and their associated processes.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly Home Team, and City staff meetings.
  • Suggest training needed and may assist in leading sessions from time to time.
  • Provide performance review input as requested.
  • Implement, instruct, and follow safety procedures.
  • Assist in the training of current and future employees as assigned.
  • Communicate barriers impacting operational efficiency.
  • Coordinates recreational and athletic activities including establishing cost-recovery based participation fees, marketing (press releases/print and digital advertising), securing sponsors, registration, accounting of fees received, conducting participant and staff training meetings, advertising events, ordering resources, scheduling, and overseeing the activities.
  • Oversee ongoing programs including adult softball, kickball, adult/youth flag-football, youth soccer, and youth tackle football.
  • Inspects, maintains, orders, and arranges for supplies and equipment required for each activity.
  • Complete end of activity tasks including profit and loss statement, inventory, thank you letters, participation statistics, activity evaluations and activity process map and timeline updates.
  • Ensure inventory control of all assigned equipment.
  • Assists in the general operations of assigned facilities.
  • Provide accurate and timely input to the annual budgeting process.
  • Take necessary action to ensure that program goals, safety and sanitary standards are consistently being achieved.
  • Investigate complaints or concerns and recommend actions to their supervisor.
  • Collect and account for and safeguards user fees.
  • Maintain assigned records including participants, facility users and usage, correspondence, volunteer background verifications and daily reports.
  • Send out bids for jerseys for all of the youth leagues.
  • Report maintenance problems and safety concerns and assist with solving the problems.
  • Assist with the scheduling and rental of facilities.
  • Coordinate related program responsibilities with assigned other staff.
  • Coordinate with contracted officials to ensure adequate coverage for sports leagues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Will assume supervisory responsibilities at discretion of the Recreation Supervisor


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of officials, coaches, and summer recreation assistants.


QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of work experience involving recreation.


Licenses or Certifications:

First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications are desired.

  • Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Skill in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skill in using computers for data entry.
  • Skill in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to communicate and organize effectively.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, technical, structural, compositional or identifiable characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
  • Ability to communicate with people to convey or exchange professional information.
  • Ability to read a variety of professional, technical and administrative documentation, directions, instructions, methods and procedures.
  • Ability to produce reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
  • Ability to learn and understand subject matter principles and techniques.
  • Ability to make independent judgments in absence of supervision within the scope of respective job duties and tasks.
  • Ability to acquire and expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract, multiply and divide totals; determine percentages; and determine time and weight and interpret same as may be appropriate.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
  • Ability to coordinate work of maintenance and staff teams
  • Ability to develop and use training materials to train personnel.
  • Ability to interact with people (staff, supervisors, general public and elected officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions, to include tactfully mediating conflicts and achieving positive results.
  • Ability to perform under maximum stress when confronted with short deadlines, heavy workloads, conflicting interests and high customer demand.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of essential job-related machines and office equipment. Must be able to move or carry essential job-related objects or materials.
