Assistant Registrar

Waitangi Tribunal Unit, Wellington

The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Māori relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity

The Assistant Registrar Supports The Waitangi Tribunal By Performing Registrarial Functions That Are Essential To The Effective Operation Of The Organisation. These Functions Include

  • the registration of claims;
  • preparing Legal Aid application reports; and
  • providing drafting assistance and advice in relation to legal and procedural issues.

To Be Successful In The Role You Will Have

  • an LLB, or advanced study towards an LLB, is essential for this position
  • an understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence
  • experience working with Māori groups and organisations
  • well-developed organisation, planning and writing skills, particularly legal research, critique and analysis
  • an understanding of Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori or a desire to be able to develop in this area.

Experience working with judiciary and a commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Māori will be an advantage.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $66,066 and $90,008 based on skills and experience.
