Overview
Per the Charlotte Lab Athletics mission and philosophy statements, the purpose of sport is the pursuit of excellence in character, academics, and culture. While we aim to compete at a high level athletically, our mission is to develop integrity and leadership, as well as cultivate a growth mindset and resilience within our student-athletes. Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, a Lab Coach is responsible for educating student-athletes to this end through participation in sport. A Lab Coach will be a sport-specific expert who can provide safe, fun, and challenging learning environments for student-athletes, as well as model sportsmanship and positive leadership in all areas of the program.
Charlotte Lab Athletics seeks coaches for the following sports:
Fall Sports:
Middle School Soccer
High School Soccer
Middle School Girls Volleyball
High School Girls Volleyball
Winter Sports:
Middle School Boys Baskteball
Middle School Girls Basketball
High School Boys Basketball
Spring Sports:
Flag Football
Performance Responsibilities
Supervise and instruct student-athletes during all team activities, including:
Plan and execute practices that are relevant, challenging, and developmentally appropriate
for all student-athletes.
Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is
considered a participant.
Be present at all practices and games.
Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
Complete & submit proper paperwork and reports to the Director of Athletics as needed.
Maintain and inventory of team equipment and apparel, including:
Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
Maintain of positive public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers,
community partners, other institutional representatives, vendors, and fans, including:
Support of multi-sport participation for student-athletes and promotion of balanced achievement in
all areas of school life for student-athletes.
In concert with the Director of Athletics, ensure program compliance with all NCHSSA, NCDPI, and
community-based organization rules/regulations for sport.
Terms of Employment
The above responsibilities should be executed for the duration of the contracted season.
Fall Season - August 31 through November 15
Winter Season - October 15 through March 1
Spring Season - February 1 through end of spring semester
The Charlotte Lab School Athletic Coaches will have responsibilities in support of the Charlotte Lab Schools’ organizational vision:
Lead consistent coaches/team meetings and communicate regularly through systems designed for your team;
Be detail oriented, balanced with the ability to see the “big picture;”
Possess strong communication skills;
Supervise students and assist in the maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe school environment;
Have excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills.
Represent Charlotte Lab School in a positive manner throughout the larger community.
Qualifications
Candidates for Athletics Coach MUST:
Hold or be willing to obtain up-to-date CPR/First Aid Certification;
Must complete a criminal background check prior to employment.
In addition, the Lab School Hiring Committee will look favorably upon candidates who:
Have a least two years of relevant coaching experience;
Demonstrate ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, start-up environment both independently and as part of a team; and
Demonstrate experience in, or passion for, working with diverse populations
Stipend
$1,000 per team
