About the Role
The Bench Technician prepares end-user equipment for deployment and supports the full lifecycle of “Tech Packages.” This includes enrolling devices in Microsoft Intune, imaging and configuring laptops/desktops/peripherals, maintaining accurate asset inventory, and processing Tech Package returns to ensure devices are sanitized, updated, and ready for redeployment.
Key Responsibilities
Device Provisioning & Intune Enrollment
- Enroll and configure Windows/macOS/iOS/Android devices in Microsoft Intune (Autopilot/ABM/ADB as applicable).
- Apply standard images, compliance policies, configuration profiles, and required apps.
- Validate device health, encryption, patch status, and sign-in readiness.
Tech Package Preparation
- Assemble complete Tech Packages (laptop/desktop, power adapters, peripherals, documentation, shipping materials).
- Apply asset tags and labels; verify user assignment and accessories per order.
- Conduct QA checks before shipment; coordinate carrier pickup or on-site handoff.
Inventory & Asset Management
- Maintain accurate inventory counts for devices and peripherals; update asset records and status changes.
- Track devices through the lifecycle (in stock, prepped, shipped, in-use, RMA, retired).
- Reorder supplies/peripherals based on thresholds; receive and shelve stock.
Returns & Refresh
- Process Tech Package returns (RMA/offboarding); verify included items, document condition, and update CMDB/asset system.
- Wipe, reimage, and re-enroll devices; test hardware; route repairs or warranty claims as needed.
- Sanitize data per policy and certify devices for redeployment or disposal.
Operational Support
- Maintain bench standards, SOPs, and checklists; suggest improvements for speed and quality.
- Partner with Help Desk, IAM, and Security to resolve provisioning issues.
- Support occasional hand-on troubleshooting of hardware (keyboards, batteries, RAM, storage, docks).
Qualifications
- 1–3 years in a bench, depot, or end-user computing role (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune/Endpoint Manager (Autopilot, device compliance, configuration profiles, app deployment).
- Experience imaging Windows (MDT/Autopilot/OOBE) and basic macOS/iOS/Android enrollment concepts.
- Familiarity with inventory/asset tools (e.g., ServiceNow/Jira/Asset Panda) and barcode scanners.
- Hardware skills: RAM/SSD swaps, battery/keyboard replacements, peripheral setup, basic diagnostics.
- Understanding of data sanitization practices (BitLocker/FileVault, secure wipe) and chain-of-custody.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation habits, and reliability; able to lift/pack shipments (up to ~40 lbs).
Nice to Have
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate.
- Experience with Apple Business Manager / DEP, Windows Autopilot hardware hashes, and driver/firmware updates.
- Scripting familiarity (PowerShell) for bulk actions/reporting.
Core Competencies
- Process-driven and checklist-oriented
- Time management & throughput focus
- Ownership and follow-through
- Clear written documentation and labeling
- Customer-centric mindset
Success Metrics (KPIs)

- Inventory accuracy (e.g., ≥98% match to system of record)
- Return processing SLA (e.g., devices sanitized and ready within 3 business days)
- Reduction in DOA/RMA rates and repeat provisioning tickets
