Position Description
The following position is currently available at Sara Lee Frozen Bakery, Tarboro, NC. If you meet the basic qualifications and are interested in the position, please complete an internal application available in the Human Resources Department.
Boiler & Refrigeration Supervisor Duties
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to Boiler & Refrigeration team members across 3rd. shift to ensure equipment operates in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner that supports overall bakery operations.
- Plan, assign, and monitor daily work activities, including preventive maintenance (PMs), work orders, and special projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to established standards.
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action plans to resolve equipment failures and process interruptions.
- Oversee training, coaching, and development of department team members, ensuring proper certification, compliance with PSM/RMP requirements, and consistent skill development.
- Maintain and track department training assignments and ensure team compliance with company, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Monitor and drive department performance metrics, including PM completion rates, downtime reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for cross-functional teams and leadership regarding 3rd shift Boiler & Refrigeration operations, project updates, and compliance issues.
- Partner with engineering and project teams to implement equipment upgrades, process changes, and product testing.
- Conduct regular team meetings across shifts to align priorities, communicate expectations, and address operational concerns.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all maintenance and safety-related activities.
- Act as the 3rd shift department leader responsible for decision-making and issue resolution.
Qualifications
- Must meet all requirements of the Refrigeration Technician role, including hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Minimum of 10 years of refrigeration experience, with a proven track record of leadership in an industrial environment.
- Level III Ammonia Operator Certification required.
- Haz Mat certification (40-hour achievement) required and ability to serve as a team captain in the event of a Haz Mat event.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop team members.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining safety and compliance standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to utilize maintenance management systems.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, safety, and professional development.
