CMU Tech Community Education Center - OSHA General Industry Outreach Trainer
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: This position focuses on providing OSHA
General Industry outreach training to local businesses, organizations, and the
broader community. The trainer will work with the Custom Program Specialist to coordinate
course offerings, deliver instruction in compliance with OSHA guidelines, and
collaborate with employers and agencies to support workforce readiness and
regulatory compliance.
Courses
currently run on an as-needed basis and will not be offered on a fixed
schedule. The Custom Program Specialist will work with the instructor to
schedule times and dates for courses as necessary to meet the demands of
Community Education Center clients.
CMU Tech is Colorado Mesa University's two-year division,
located in Grand Junction, Colorado. Our Community Education Center (CEC)
delivers non-credit workforce training programs and industry certifications
that strengthen the regional economy and support lifelong learning. We proudly
serve the workforce of western Colorado, collaborating with local employers,
government agencies, and educational partners to provide training solutions in
health and safety, skilled trades, business, and more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be

Salary: $35.00-50.00/hour. Commensurate
with education and experience.

- Deliver
OSHA-authorized 10- and 30-hour General Industry courses to a wide range
of learners. -
Ensure
curriculum delivery aligns with OSHA Training Institute Education Center
(OTIEC) standards. -
Maintain
thorough knowledge of current OSHA policies, procedures, and regulations. -
Work
with the Customized Program Specialist in coordinating and scheduling
course offerings with local and regional partners. -
Create
engaging, learner-centered experiences that support knowledge retention
and skill application. -
Maintain
and submit documentation in compliance with OSHA recordkeeping
requirements. -
Stay
current on safety training trends, best practices, and industry needs. -
Assist
with program development, promotion, and client support with the CEC. -
Travel
to employer sites and community-based training locations, as needed. -
Serve
as a resource and advocate for occupational safety and health in western
Colorado.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Current OSHA-authorized Outreach Trainer status for General Industry.
- Successful completion of OSHA #501 - Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in occupational safety, industrial training, or related fields.
- Excellent communication and instructional skills with adult learners.
- Proficiency in using standard office technology and digital learning tools.
- Valid Colorado driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience delivering OSHA training in a community college or workforce development setting.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
- Experience with curriculum development or course customization for client-specific needs.
- Certifications in other safety-related areas (e.g., First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER, forklift safety, etc.).
Salary: $35.00-50.00/hour. Commensurate
