Department Summary
The IT Operations Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for end-user support services within the College of Arts and Sciences. This role is responsible for driving service excellence, optimizing support processes, and aligning technology initiatives with college and university-wide goals. The manager leads a team of IT professionals, ensuring effective delivery of technical support, lifecycle management of IT assets, and execution of technology infrastructure projects. Key responsibilities include managing technology budgets, ensuring compliance with institutional IT policies, and developing scalable, sustainable support strategies that enhance the user experience for faculty, staff, and students. The manager also collaborates cross-functionally with academic leadership and central IT to implement enterprise solutions, champion innovation, and ensure alignment with evolving pedagogical and research needs.

Position Profile
Serves as the initial point of contact for IT services. Receives customer issues and requests. Provides troubleshooting, evaluates issues, and escalates as needed to higher-tier and specialized staff. Performs continued monitoring of customer issue escalations and requests. Communicates, tracks, and reports computing environment outages while working with IT personnel and leadership to monitor or assist in problem resolution. Installs, upgrades, configures, and maintains classroom technologies. Provides device troubleshooting and support to faculty, staff, and students.

Level Summary
Manages a work unit or a team and has full authority over personnel actions within the work unit. Contributes to the development of the area’s operational plan, ensuring alignment with broader departmental or institutional goals. Accountable for the achievement of the unit’s operational objectives, improving performance and addressing resource needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages a medium-sized team. Directly oversees at least 2.0 FTE employees or one or more supervisors. Has authority to hire, transfer, suspend, promote, manage performance, discharge, assign duties, reward, and discipline employees.

Fiscal Responsibilities
Responsible for managing team or department budgets and resources.

Problem Solving
Addresses departmental or cross-team issues, devises long-term solutions.

Independence of Action
Acts independently, with consultation with senior management.

Communication and Collaboration
Facilitates communication among team and higher-level leadership, builds relationships across University.

Physical Requirements
While this role is primarily desk-based, it also requires regular travel between campus buildings and the ability to lift, move, and carry materials weighing 25–50 pounds as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 5 or more years of related professional experience, and 3 or more years of supervisory experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience supporting information technology operations within a higher education or academic environment, with an understanding of the unique needs of faculty, staff, and students.

Pay Rate
The approved hiring range for this position is $68,299 to $92,205. Salary is commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.

Work Schedule
This position is based on the Athens campus with a hybrid work arrangement. The IT Operations Manager is expected to be on-site a minimum of 2–3 days per week to provide in-person leadership, support team operations, and engage with campus stakeholders. Remote work is permitted up to 50% of the time, subject to operational needs and in accordance with university flexible work policies. Specific remote and in-person days may vary based on project schedules, peak service times, and staffing requirements.
