Job Description Summary:
The Consultant, Advice & Counsel responds to questions and issues from leaders regarding OhioHealth Human Resources Policy and Procedures. The Consultant is the first point of contact for leaders and is responsible for the intake of new cases. The Consultant handles Tier 1 and Tier 2 cases, including those related to attendance, HR policies, etc. The role requires the ability to function in a fast-paced, high case volume environment, objectively obtain and analyze information, develop fact-based conclusions, and accurately summarize information.Responsibilities And Duties:
- Collects and analyzes incoming information, answers questions, enters initial request for service into the ACC case management system, captures details of incidents and inquiries to ensure proper assignment and provide sufficient background to ACC Sr. Consultants. Identifies critical situations and escalates incident to appropriate ACC Sr. Consultant for immediate review. Assigns cases to the appropriate ACC Sr. Consultant based on workload and availability.
- Manage the ACC case spreadsheet, ACCAdmin email and ACCAdmin calendar
- Advises and counsels leaders on various employee and labor relations issues including attendance, unemployment, behavior, employment requirements, leaves of absence, and ADA/FMLA.
- Provides strategic and tactical solutions to address issues, while evaluating and escalating matters as appropriate
- Coaches and guides leaders
- Articulates and interprets policies for leaders
- Maintains an updated understanding of employee and labor relations laws, rules, regulations, policies, and trends
- Upload signed corrective action to the personnel management database
- Approve or decline involuntary termination requests in Workday
- Mark associates as ineligible for rehire when necessary
- ACC case management database reporting
- Retrieve and provide accurate documentation to the Office of the General Counsel pursuant to requests and subpoenas
- Draft Salary Continuation Agreement requests and maintain the Salary Continuation Agreement spreadsheet
- Process severance terminations
- Point of contact for outplacement services
- Support Compensation to determine bonus eligibility
- Prepare appeal files for the Appeal Committee
- Draft and send appeal decision letters
- Manager ACC collaboration with Protective Services video footage
- Completes projects as assigned by the ACC Director

- Three years of HR or related experience
- Knowledge of employee and labor relations laws, rules, and regulations
- Ability to interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, policies, and regulations to the issues at hand and effectively advise leaders on the same
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally – both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish rapport quickly and effectively with all levels of leadership
- Excellent judgment, critical thinking skills, and analytical ability
- Ability to balance working both autonomously day-to-day, and collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to think creatively and proactively in identifying potential issues and resolving known issues
- Ability to navigate high case volume
- Desire to continuously learn and stay up to date on employee related trends, issues, and concerns
- Ability to discern issues that need to be escalated
