JOB TITLE: Controller
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
SUPERVISES: Accounting Staff
General Responsibilities:
The Controller is a senior level finance leader responsible for the full spectrum of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and regulatory compliance across UHM Properties diverse real estate portfolio. This role reports directly to the CFO and serves as a key member of the organization's financial leadership team.
The Controller ensures the integrity of financial systems and reporting, oversees internal controls and manages a team of accounting professionals, works collaboratively wth property management, development, asset management and external partners.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage OneSite Accounting initiatives.
- Oversee the activities of Accounts Payable to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices and information reporting.
- Maintain general ledger and payment processing systems and controls to verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
- Assist with other projects, including financial modeling, development project funding, and owner communication.
- Assist with property insurance, tax, and audit reporting.
- Compile special/individualized financial reports as requested by clients and corporate staff.
- Provide leadership and talent management for members of the accounting staff.
- Maintain controls and efficient processing of all financial transactions.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Seven years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in affordable housing, real estate or nonprofit finance.
- Three plus (3+) years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of Onesite/Real Page software and Microsoft Excel experience with other financial systems is a plus.
- In-dept knowledge of GAAP and compliance with HUD, LIHTC and other affordable housing regulations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism
- Able to relate positively with a diverse contingency, i.e., Residents, Vendors, Clients, Lenders, and other divisions within the Company.
