General Function
The Coordinator, Student Success Initiatives directs student success initiatives in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center, including the BEAR (Building Early Academic Readiness) Launch program, a summer bridge program for students who would not otherwise be admissible to Missouri State University. The Coordinator, Student Success Initiatives advises students who are admitted through the individual review/exceptions process throughout the year. The Coordinator, Student Success Initiatives carries an advising load of individual review and undeclared majors, assisting assigned students in the development of academic plans appropriate for their stated educational goals, guiding exploratory students in the selection of academic majors, and directing students to resources within the University that provide assistance in making career/academic major program choices, as appropriate.

Description of Primary Duties
The Coordinator, Student Success Initiatives directs student success initiatives in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center, including the BEAR (Building Early Academic Readiness) Launch program, a summer bridge program for students who would not otherwise be admissible to Missouri State University. The Coordinator, Student Success Initiatives advises students who are admitted through the individual review/exceptions process throughout the year. The Coordinator, Student Success Initiatives carries an advising load of individual review and undeclared majors, assisting assigned students in the development of academic plans appropriate for their stated educational goals, guiding exploratory students in the selection of academic majors, and directing students to resources within the University that provide assistance in making career/academic major program choices, as appropriate.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: A Master’s degree is required.
Experience: At least three years of academic advising or counseling experience is required, where knowledge of federal, state, and higher education policies and procedures has been gained. Experience with and interest in working with at risk and/or first year student populations are required. Teaching experience is preferred. Experience with program design, planning, and assessment is preferred.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational and management skills are required. The ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators from across campus is required. A working knowledge of various computer and database applications is required.
Other: The scope of the position occasionally requires work in the evenings and on weekends.
