DUTIES:
- Comply with and enforce state statues and departmental/institutional rules and regulations.
- Maintain responsibility for the total operation of the housing unit.
- Ensure sanitation is maintained at a high level by conducting daily inspections, sanitation reports and correcting deficiencies immediately.
- Observe, evaluate and document subordinate staff performance.
- Provide on-the-job training and coordinate training for all assigned staff.
- Effectively communicate all relevant information to line staff, supervisors and other departments.
- Chair Unit Classification and Unit Disciplinary Committee. Render decisions that are consistent with department policy and the philosophy of the NDCS.
- Complete investigations as assigned.
- Learn and perform the duties and responsibilities of the Unit Administrator's office, as needed.
- Demonstrate leadership, commitment and professionalism on a daily basis.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or a related field and one year of corrections experience, including supervisory experience; OR Associate’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or related field and three years of corrections experience, including supervisory experience; OR five years of corrections experience, including supervisory experience. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in NDCS Custody and/or Unit Management. Leadership must be consistent with Department's mission and vision. Bilingual English/Spanish desired and assessed.
Other: Transcripts required prior to appointment. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
