Position Summary
The Coordinator of Culinary Medicine will oversee the daily operations of the Teaching Kitchen at Gibbs Cancer Center, Pelham, which will serve as the core for culinary medicine and food-based community health education and outreach. The coordinator shall oversee programming, events, and food-based learning that assist all interested departments in launching culinary medicine initiatives. The coordinator will organize system based nutritional offerings including but not limited to “Colorful Cooking at Home” as well as serve as the system coordinator for “Cooking Up Confidence.” The coordinator will lead our system in the Food is Medicine initiatives and oversee our membership with the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative. The coordinator has the overall responsibility of ensuring high standards of food and equipment safety within the kitchen and proper protocols that meet compliance standards for any entity that utilizes the teaching kitchen space.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related health related field.
Experience
- 1 years of experience in food safety classes
- 1 year of experience in culinary medicine related events
License/Registration/Certifications
- Registered Dietician
- BLS

- 5-8 years in nutrition, health related, nursing, or community outreach
- Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian
- Teaching Kitchen/Demo Kitchen events

- ServeSafe certification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in EMR, EPIC
Core Job Responsibilities
- Launch culinary medicine initiatives including engaging departments on appropriate nutrition and health related topics.
- Coordinate teaching kitchen tours and bookings.
- Work collaboratively with system wide RD’s to promote educational and outreach opportunities
- Teach classes in person and virtually.
- Establish community partnerships and relationships to grow the Culinary Medicine program
- Develop internal and external processes addressing patient food and nutrition security.
- Document, track, and report data and metrics related to the Culinary Medicine program.
- Coordinates established program offerings for Cooking Up Confidence and Colorful Cooking at Home
- Lead “train the trainer” model style of teaching for other users in the Teaching Kitchen.
- Maintain inventory of food, equipment, and linens including but not limited to deliveries, quality, and expirations.
- Working knowledge of local and state health and safety regulations for food safety and sanitation.
- Participation and membership in Teaching Kitchen Collaborative as necessary.
- Investigate and develop system wide process for providing Shared Medical Appointments out of the Teaching Kitchen space.
- Provide oversight to the Culinary Educator
