Job Summary: The Dietary Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Dietary Department. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality food services while maintaining regulatory compliance and financial sustainability. The manager oversees staffing, operations, and resident satisfaction, while fostering a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Departmental Management:
- Oversee daily operations of the Dietary and Service departments to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Maintain financial viability through cost-effective practices without compromising resident care or satisfaction.
- Develop and implement departmental procedures to ensure cleanliness, safety, and equipment maintenance.
Staffing and Leadership:
- Manage staffing needs including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management of dietary staff.
- Address disciplinary issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide hands-on support during staffing shortages (e.g., call-outs or no-shows).
- Conduct regular departmental meetings and provide ongoing staff education and training.
Resident Care & Dietary Planning:
- Conduct resident interviews to assess dietary needs, preferences, and restrictions.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date resident meal tickets.
- Collaborate with Registered Dietitians to ensure menus meet nutritional standards and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in weekly care plan meetings to support individualized resident care.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all dietary and housekeeping services meet federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment in all food service areas.
- Prepare for and respond to regulatory inspections or audits.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in a monthly rotation of after-hours facility rounds, including weekends and evenings, as assigned by administration.
- Rotate in monthly on-call weekend staffing responsibilities.
- Regularly cook and prepare meals.
- Provide cooking assistance as needed to support kitchen operations.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities, including sheltering in place or evacuating during emergencies such as hurricanes.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in dietary or food service management, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification as a Dietary Manager (CDM) preferred, or willingness to obtain.
