Where you will work:
This position offers a hybrid work option up to 50% remote and is open to any Compeer office location in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The contributions you will make:

This position leads the transformation and continued evolution of Compeer’s Development and Delivery teams by developing and maturing application development and support capabilities across the organization. Closely partners with department leaders to create capacity by leaning out and reducing level and impact of unplanned operational work, systemically identifying and remediating development and delivery flow impediments, and adopting application developer productivity accelerators. Partners with Infrastructure and Operations, and Information Security leaders in collaboratively developing DevSecOps technology strategy and driving the implementation and adoption of strategic solutions.

A typical day:

  • Strategic Leadership and Execution
    • Champions the brand; serves as a role-model for Compeer's vision, mission and values.
    • Enables Development and Delivery (D&D) teams in support of Compeer’s strategic initiatives.
    • Leads the Development and Delivery (D&D) Engineering and Operational Excellence team in applying and maturing Lean Management principles and practices in daily work, driving operational and engineering excellence, standard work, and shift-left mindset with adoption of TDD (Test Driven-De, Test Automation, and CI/CD tooling methods.
    • Develops and implements delivery and support capabilities needed to lean out and create capacity across new feature delivery and operational work over time.
    • Creates capacity by systemically identifying flow impediments and leaning out level of unplanned work over time.
    • Advocates for the DevSecOps engineering culture and mindset within the Development and Delivery teams, while nurturing a high-trust environment where best practices, like 'blameless retrospectives,' are highly effective.
    • Partners across the BT Team including the Infrastructure and Operations, Enterprise Architecture, and Security and Risk Management to align on strategy and accelerate development and deployment of digital products.
    • Promotes SDLC best practices and fosters a positive environment for developers across teams.
    • Drives continuous improvement across software engineering capabilities by keeping abreast of industry best practices and identifying and executing improvement initiatives that enhance the teams capabilities and value delivery.
    • Advocates for features that decrease response time to enhance user satisfaction for both internal and external users.
  • Team Leadership
    • Creates and promotes a positive culture and work environment that leverages team member talents and abilities in achieving goals of the D&D Engineering and Operational Excellence team.
    • Creates and promotes a values and trust-based culture of high-performance and execution.
    • Selects, develops, motivates, and engages great talent to create and maintain a high-performing team; ensures a talent-pipeline to meet the future needs of the team.
    • Effectively initiates, inspires and leads change within the team.
    • Creates/modifies team structure and identifies capabilities and roles needed to evolve the team as new operational efficiency opportunities and capabilities such as TDD or CICD technologies are introduced to the organization.
    • Determines performance standards and development plans and effectively communicates them to team members.
    • Manages the evaluation and compensation processes for direct and indirect reports.
    • Drives continuous process improvement and develops best practices within the team.
    • Coaches team members on more complex and challenging issues and decisions.
  • Industry Expertise
    • Demonstrates expertise in working with and managing operational support delivery partners.
    • Networks with Infrastructure and Operations, Security and Risk Management leaders and outside software engineering community to drive the DevSecOps maturity across organization.
    • Maintains relevant knowledge of current and emerging SDLC technology, tools, and techniques in the software development industry.
    • Demonstrates expertise in applying MDI techniques, Pareto Charts, TIME Management Matrix and other techniques to drive continuous improvement and extraordinary productivity.
    • Provides updates to Development and Delivery leaders regarding operational work and the D&D delivery pipelines flow and presents actionable improvement recommendations.
  • Development and Delivery Process Management
    • Champions SDLC process best practices (i.e. building, testing, supporting, and enforcing best practices).
    • Defines and manages the process of identifying and measuring the level of planned and unplanned work over time.
    • Defines and manages processes that lead to systemic reduction, and financial capacity impact, of unplanned operational work over time.
    • Champions the Lean Management process across D&D teams.
    • Assists with the budget planning process.

The skills and experience we prefer you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Expert-level information technology experience, preferably in a financial institution.
  • Minimum of five years of leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Exceptional people leadership and talent development skills including the ability to select, evaluate, engage, motivate, mentor, train, delegate, reward, and lead team members.
  • Recognized as the Operational Support, Lean, and DevSecOps expert.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage values-based leadership to shape and influence culture; able to lead in a hybrid work environment.
  • Demonstrated success in effectively and efficiently leaning out and managing the operational work.
  • Demonstrated success in driving the application development and support maturity across software engineering teams.
  • Advanced experience leading technology transformation and change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to develop high-impact technology strategy.
  • High learning agility with demonstrated ability to apply past experiences and learnings successfully in new situations.
  • High degree of curiosity across leadership and technology disciplines.
  • Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Expert-level knowledge of product development, Agile Solution Delivery and DevSecOps principles.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve our common goals.
  • Strong strategic thinker, able to deliver tactical deliverables.

The actual title and base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for variable compensation and other benefits.

$129,800 - $197,600 USD
