School-Age Child Care Director
Location: Providence, RI (2 openings)
Position Classification: Full-time, salaried, exempt position
Salary: $45,000 to $55,000 annually
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- management of State-licensed school-age childcare program. One of the sites offers both before-school and after-school care, while the other site provides after-school-only care. One of the Child Care Directors will likely work afternoons at their primary site and mornings at another site.

- site budget monitoring (collecting Child Care payments, controlling expenses, etc.)
- program evaluation
- data management (attendance, reports, grant requirements, etc.)
- community relations
- partnership development (schools, program providers, community agencies, etc.)
In addition to technical youth development know-how, positive personal qualities are vital to building effective relationships with children, families, schools, and other community partners. Successful Child Care Directors are friendly and welcoming, organized, reliable, and show leadership to staff, and their actions reflect a deep commitment to the mission and goals of the organization. They seek out opportunities to continuously improve their own knowledge and skills, and those of their staff, to increase the scope and quality of youth services provided at the site. Most importantly, the Child Care Director believes that every young person can succeed, and understands the complex challenges navigated by today’s youth.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education requirements:
The Child Care Director for a RI State-licensed School-Age Child Care program must meet the requirements needed to be designated as the “School-Age Site Coordinator” on the state-issued Child Care License for the site.
· Be at least 21 years of age; and
· Meet the education requirements detailed in ONE of the four options below:
Option 1: The individual holds an Associate’s degree (AA) or sixty (60) college credit hours, with eighteen (18) of them in a field related to Education, Child Development, Human Services or Recreation from an approved and accredited institution of higher education.
Option 2: The individual holds an Associate's degree (AA) in a field related to Education, Child Development, Human Services or Recreation from an accredited or approved institution of higher education.
Option 3: The individual holds a Bachelor's degree or higher in a field related to Education, Child Development, Human Services or Recreation from an accredited or approved institution of higher education.
Option 4: The individual holds a Master’s degree in a field related to Education, Child Development, Human Services or Recreation from an accredited or approved institution of higher education.
Additional Qualifications:
- Required: 3 or more years of work experience in youth development, education, child care or related services, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role;
- Required: strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Required: intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite, membership database, electronic communications
- Required: must have or obtain a RI Chauffeur’s License within first 90 days of employment
- Required: must be or become certified in First Aid and CPR
- Preferred: 2 or more years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club, including 1 year in a Boys & Girls Club supervisory or management role;
- Preferred: previous Youth Development experience in a diverse urban community;
- Preferred: previous work experience with state-licensed Child Care programs
- Preferred: previous experience with BrightStars rating system
- Preferred: fluency in speaking and writing Spanish
Background Checks & Screening clearance requirements
- Social Security Number verification
- Comprehensive criminal background checks clearances (national, state and local; including continuous monitoring)
- National Sex Offender Registry clearance (including continuous monitoring)
- RI State BCI clearance (annually)
- RI DCYF Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking (C.A.N.T.S.) clearance (annually)
- Continuous "Criminal Records Watch" monitoring during course of employment
- Out-of-state child abuse registry clearances for states lived in during past 5 years
