Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Noblesville, IN is seeking a Director of Youth Ministry. This is a full-time position with compensation dependent on qualifications with HOUSING AND UTILITIES PROVIDED.
The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining a discipleship program of spiritual formation for the youth in our congregation and community. An effective leader will work with church and community leaders of all ages to address the needs of youth and to implement opportunities for their growth as Christian disciples.
Qualifications: We seek an individual who is team-oriented and self-directed. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for working with youth and have an ability to share his/her faith in Christ. A degree in youth ministry is not required but a plus, and previous experience is recommended. Other skills/experience desired include leadership, knowledge of United Methodist theology, communications, and participation in missions.
This position is required to work together with the Senior Pastor, Children’s Ministry Director, Office Administrators, and any number of volunteers from within the church. This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor.
Administrative Responsibilities
Update, abide by, and enforce all Child Protection Guidelines
o Obtain and maintain volunteer background check files
Manage the budgeted finances for all Youth Ministries
o Organize fundraisers when needed for various ministry opportunities
Attend weekly staff meetings
Create and obtain permission slips for minors to attend various activities and ministry events.
Attend Youth focused conferences or other continuing education experiences annually
Youth Responsibilities
Attend church weekly and be a presence of leadership for the youth in attendance
Conduct a weekly Sunday School lesson (or obtain a volunteer to teach a lesson in your absence)
Conduct weekly Youth Group gatherings for middle school and high school aged youth (together or separately) (or obtain a volunteer to lead the gatherings in your absence)
Provide the youth with opportunities to grow through study, prayer, and action(service)
o Offer an annual retreat for the youth to attend
o Encourage youth to attend a UMC camp annually
o Encourage youth and their parents to attend Chrysalis/Emmaus events
o Offer opportunities for mission experiences (locally and beyond)
Effectively communicate with the youth to keep them engaged
o Annual/monthly/weekly calendar to communicate upcoming events and opportunities
o Reminders of permission slip needs
Have FUN!
o Youth lock-ins, game nights, and any other events that foster fellowship and fun are always welcomed and encouraged
Parent Responsibilities
Effectively communicate with the parents of the students who become a part of the Youth Groups
o Annual/monthly/weekly calendar to communicate the events upcoming
o Reminders of permission slip needs
o Transparency with the lessons being taught to help foster conversations at home between youth and parents
Volunteer Responsibilities
You will NEED volunteers at every level of this program. Developing relationships and fostering leadership through volunteerism will be key to the success of the Youth Ministries.
Obtain and maintain background checks and Child Guideline Policy waivers for volunteers. Assure that all volunteers are aware of their requirements in all matters relating to work with minors
Provide service opportunities for volunteers to serve the Youth Ministries through the various needs of the program (leadership, set up, tear down, providing/serving meals, fundraising, etc.)
Lead the volunteers by providing clear directions for the service they are providing, answering questions, considering feedback and ideas, and empowering them to grow.
