SWCD Ditch Rider Position
Silt Water Conservancy District is looking for a full-time ditch rider / maintenance worker. The position pays $25.00-$27.50 per hour to start, depending on experience. Health insurance for employees, CRA retirement with up to 5% match, and accrued paid time off after 90 days. Must be within half an hour of the Silt, Rifle, or New Castle area. This is a drug-free workplace – pre-employment drug screening is required.
Qualifications we are looking for
- Must be reliable and self-motivated – a team player and also able to work alone and without a supervisor.
- Concrete work, floors and walls for headgates
- Welding, stick and mig welding
- Ability to operate equipment, excavator and backhoe
- Previous irrigation water experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license with good driving abilities and acceptable driving record Class A CDL driver preferred
- Ability to pick up and move 50 lbs regularly and 100 lbs occasionally
- Detail-oriented, consistent, dependable, organized and honest
- Spray applicators license preferred
- Drone pilots license preferred
- Jack of all trades type
Job Description
- This is an outdoor year around job - must be ok with working in summer heat and winter cold.
- Monthly monitoring of water levels and observation wells at 2 reservoirs Harvey Gap and Rifle Gap
- Accurately set irrigation water through Weirs, Flumes and headgates.
- Clean debris from canals and weedscreens
- Schedule will vary depending on season, during irrigation season we set ditches starting at 4am tuesdays and 5am wednesdays
- While we try to stick to a 4 -10 schedule we are also needing someone that is willing to stick around till the job gets done should the need arise.
- Be on call every other weekend for irrigation and dam safety
- Spray, mow and burn canal right of ways
- Rebuilding of old infrastructure - headwalls, form and pour concrete ect
- Customer service skills to handle public and water users
- Every monday take and record creek production readings and reservoir elevations
While we are willing to train the right applicant, The ideal applicant possesses knowledge of basic water flow and measurements, ability to identify problems and maintain canals and infrastructure using a variety of tools and equipment, and has some basic skills in concrete, plumbing, electrical and equipment operation. Must Be dependable enough to respond to emergencies at moments notice at any hour day or night.
