Job description:
Whitby School seeks a passionate and dedicated full-time EAL teacher to support our English as an Additional Language students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. The successful candidate will possess experience working with multilingual learners in their English language acquisition journey and be able to develop and implement an individualized EAL curriculum to meet their diverse needs. This role requires the ability to assess students' levels or phases of English language acquisition to inform instruction as well as for student admission. A strong understanding of early literacy and vocabulary development is essential, as is experience supporting students in the middle school years and familiarity with grade-level expectations across the lower and middle school curriculum.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with excellent written skills and the ability to collaborate closely with faculty across the school. A commitment to an asset-based approach in teaching and discussing multilingual learners is crucial.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Education, English, TESOL, or related field (preferred)
- TESOL certificate or certification
- Experience working with students across a range of grade levels
- Experience in early literacy development
- Understanding of current research in the field of language acquisition
- Experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework (preferred)
