The Echocardiography Technician is responsible for doing heart ultrasound tests to help doctors understand and treat heart problems. The right person for this job will have good technical skills, pay close attention to details, and really care about the safety and comfort of patients.
Here are the main job duties:
- Perform heart ultrasound tests (transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms) and stress tests following set guidelines.
- Use and take care of ultrasound machines and imaging software.
- Get clear images and correct measurements of the heart’s structure and function.
- Work with heart doctors to provide early findings and make sure results are interpreted quickly.
- Prepare and position patients for tests, making sure they are comfortable and safe during the exam.
- Keep accurate records of patients and write down procedures in the electronic medical record system.
- Clean and maintain the equipment regularly; report any problems right away.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory rules.
- Take part in ongoing training to keep skills and certifications updated.
**Requirements:**
- Finished a recognized heart ultrasound program. - Required.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). - Required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. - Required.
- Skill in doing echocardiograms and understanding heart anatomy and function. - Required.
- At least 1 year of experience in a clinical echocardiography setting. - Strongly Preferred.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and PACS systems. - Strongly Preferred.
- Knowledge of contrast echocardiography and advanced imaging methods. - Strongly Preferred.
- Strong understanding of heart structure, function, and diseases.
- Good communication and people skills.
- Ability to work alone and be part of a healthcare team.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Caring, patient-centered approach to treatment.
**Certification Requirements:**
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
**State License Requirements:**
- New Hampshire
- Compact License Allowed
