Francophone Charter School of Oakland is a French immersion charter school that opened its doors in 2015. Our mission is to provide a dual-immersion curriculum to a diverse community of students and to develop bilingual and bi-literate global citizens who are open minded and who value intellectual curiosity, personal integrity and creativity. We are a small, TK-8, tight-knit international community that is looking to expand its staff. We are in search of a warm and competent Special Education teacher to join our wonderful public elementary school community. No knowledge of French is required for the position.
The Education Specialist designs and delivers specialized academic instruction services to students, monitors and evaluates student progress, collaborates with general education teachers and paraprofessionals to create inclusive classrooms, and manages an IEP caseload. The qualified candidate will have knowledge of sound, developmentally appropriate learning strategies, believe in the power of inclusive classrooms to support diverse learners, and can build rapport with students to engage them in self-actualized learning. The position requires the ability to collaborate with families, Special Education teams, and school staff to support student growth. The ideal candidate will have competency with IEP writing using the SEIS platform, or willingness to learn, and is prepared to guide paraprofessionals to support students’ progress on IEP goal progress.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) aligned with student needs and in compliance with IDEA
- Provide specialized academic instruction in push-in and pull-out modalities to meet students’ individual needs
- Demonstrate professional, fun, positive attitude to engage diverse learners
- Develop and support the implementation of student behavior plans to manage student behavior through praise and positive reinforcement, with support of director and/or BCBA staff
- Supervise paraprofessionals in the implementation of activities designed to support IEP goal progress
- Assist teachers in implementing classroom accommodations with fidelity to IEPs
- Monitor and report on progress towards IEP goals; Maintain accurate documentation and data collection
- In role as case manager, coordinate and facilitate collaborative team including teachers, service providers, and families to support student growth
- Conduct educational evaluations as part of the IEP process
- Participate in Professional Development and training to learn and develop best practices for meeting students’ needs
- Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Student Support

Requirements:- BA Degree + California Special Education Credential; are currently working towards one; or, are committed to working towards a credential
- Candidates with an intern credential (or who are open to pursuing one) will also be considered
- Pass a Criminal Background Check
- Obtain a negative TB reading
- Have enthusiasm to refine and implement a creative, effective special education program; enjoy working with children
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of students, families, and colleagues
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in Special Education practice in school setting
- Proficiency with technology platforms including SEIS (Special Education Information System), or willingness to learn
