The Role:
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Emergency Management, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the Air Force’s emergency preparedness and disaster response education initiatives. Your knowledge will guide the development, evaluation, and delivery of training programs aligned with CBRN defense and emergency management best practices.
You will work alongside instructional designers, project managers, and federal stakeholders to deliver expert input across the training lifecycle, from course conception to implementation. Your strategic insight and deep technical knowledge will ensure that Air Force emergency management personnel receive timely, mission-critical instruction using the latest methodologies and tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise in CBRN defense, disaster preparedness, and emergency management to support curriculum design and instructional development.
- Consult with stakeholders to identify training gaps, develop requirements, and align course content with mission priorities and operational objectives.
- Lead or contribute to the development, execution, and refinement of modern instructional products, including virtual, hybrid, and instructor-led formats.
- Ensure training solutions integrate current industry standards, regulatory guidance, and technological advancements in emergency response and preparedness.
- Apply analytical and operations research techniques to assess training outcomes, optimize learning approaches, and support data-driven decision-making.
- Mentor instructional and support staff, providing technical guidance to ensure content accuracy and real-world applicability.
- Participate in quality reviews, pilot sessions, and implementation planning, maintaining compliance with Air Force training development standards and protocols.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Disaster or Emergency Management (or closely related discipline).
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in CBRN defense, emergency management, and/or disaster preparedness; OR 16 years or more of directly related field experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in instructional design and training development methodologies, including the use of current technologies and delivery platforms.
- Ability to communicate complex emergency management concepts clearly to a variety of audiences.
- Strategic thinking and leadership skills in high-stakes, mission-critical environments.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass a government background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience supporting Air Force, DoD, or federal emergency management training programs.
- Familiarity with military instructional standards (AFH 36-2235, ISD process) and SCORM-compliant courseware development.
- Experience with immersive or scenario-based learning solutions (e.g., VR/AR environments).
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), xAPI, or other training analytics tools.
