Position Summary
The Wexner Center for the Arts seeks skilled and reliable individuals to assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions. This temporary, recurring position supports the exhibitions team with museum-quality art handling and gallery preparation in alignment with the Wexner Center’s rotating gallery programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely handle and move artwork of various sizes and weights, including crates and packing materials.
- Assist with the packing and unpacking of artworks using museum-standard practices.
- Install and hang artworks using appropriate tools, equipment, and systems.
- Prepare gallery spaces, including cleaning, patching, and painting walls.
- Perform light carpentry, demolition, and fabrication tasks as needed.
- Operate ladders (8–10 ft) and personnel lifts (up to 20 ft) safely.
- Implement display designs under the direction of the exhibitions team.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Qualifications
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety and best practices in art handling and gallery preparation.
- Experience with fine art handling, interior painting, shop equipment, and hand tools preferred.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs safely and work at heights using ladders and lifts.
Work Breakdown
- 35%: Moving, packing, and unpacking shipping crates.
- 35%: Light carpentry, cleaning, and gallery preparation.
- 30%: Installing artworks.
This is an intermittent position, scheduled on an as-needed basis at the discretion of the supervisor.
The target hourly rate for this position is $16.50 - $17.50.*
