Position Overview
Seylone is seeking a highly experienced and well-rounded Equipment Operator with a strong background in excavation, trenching, grading, and general sitework. The ideal candidate is confident operating a wide range of equipment, knows how to read and execute plans accurately, and takes full ownership of field performance.
This position requires a CDL for transporting equipment, and 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification is mandatory due to the nature of many of our projects. The ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, inspectors, and internal team members is essential. Candidates should also be willing and able to assist with manual digging and labor when needed to get the job done efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, trenchers, and related heavy equipment
- Perform fine grading and trenching to specification without GPS support
- Read and interpret site plans, cut and fill details, and layout markings
- Load and unload equipment from trailers safely and efficiently
- Transport equipment between jobsites using company truck and trailer (CDL required)
- Support site preparation, utility trenching, and test pit excavation work
- Perform manual digging as needed for test pits, utility clearances, and similar scopes
- Receive and offload equipment deliveries from rental partners as needed
- Maintain job site safety and equipment condition through daily checks and care
- Communicate professionally with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Represent Seylone with integrity and professionalism on every project
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience operating heavy equipment on civil or sitework projects
- Ability to read plans and independently execute precise excavations and grading work
- Comfortable with manual labor and hand excavation when required
- Strong working knowledge of trench safety, utility avoidance, and jobsite best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Takes pride in quality, consistency, and doing the job right the first time
- Dependable, self-directed, and committed to upholding high standards
Certifications and Requirements
- CDL (Class A or B) required
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER required
- OSHA 10 or 30 required
- Flagger, Confined Space, First Aid preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and willing to travel regionally as needed
