Position Summary:
Aspen Utility Company is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Fiber Splicer to join our telecommunications construction team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in fiber optic cable splicing, testing, and troubleshooting in both aerial and underground environments. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality connectivity for our clients across residential, commercial, and municipal projects.
What You'll Do:Key Responsibilities:
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables.
- Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to verify cable integrity.
- Interpret and work from network schematics, blueprints, and splice diagrams.
- Install and maintain fiber optic systems in aerial and underground settings.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber systems.
- Maintain accurate records of splicing activities and test results.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company protocols.
- Collaborate with field crews, project managers, and clients to meet project timelines.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in fiber splicing or related telecommunications work.
- Proficiency with fiber splicing tools and test equipment (e.g., OTDR, fusion splicer).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with GIS mapping and documentation tools.
- Knowledge of coaxial cable systems and small cell installations.
- Familiarity with safety protocols in utility construction environments.
