The Fiber Splicer is responsible for FTTP, new build, night maintenance, and emergencies. Willing to travel and be on call, self-motivated, team player and hard working. pay is based on experience and qualifications.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ability to splice large count fibers via loose tube or ribbon method
- Able to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDR, Fiber Identifier, Visible Light Source and Light Meter
- Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to multiple count as well as perform ring cut when needed
- Perform power meter testing

- Must be able to lift/push/pull/carry 80-100 lbs
- Must be comfortable with heights up to 28 feet
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, peers, etc.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, and dry)
- Ability to work in a confined space and at high elevations (poles, hydraulic lift buckets, ladders)
- Must be able to work in a loud, noise-filled environment out in the field
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- Must have AT LEAST 2 years of experience
- Knowledge of operating and using fiber optic splice equipment
- Knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss, connector types and the different types of fibers
Technical Skills:
- Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings
- Ability to utilize MS Excel or equivalent to document and retrieve splice information
- Ability to operate a bucket truck
Soft Skills:
- Highly organized and detail orientated
- Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job
