Your Role:
The Fleet Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, and supervises the division’s maintenance staff and operations. This management role is responsible for the overall support of fleet and equipment maintenance processes—including inspection, repair, pre- and post-servicing, vehicle distribution, quality assurance, and disposal. The manager also performs diagnostic tests on garbage trucks and other diesel-powered equipment to identify and resolve issues.
Oversee maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles to ensure they are safe, compliant, and operational
Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend vehicle lifespan
Lead and manage a team of mechanics and technicians, providing mentorship, direction, and support
Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics to identify and address inefficiencies
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including DOT requirements
Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to optimize fleet utilization and performance
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs
Manage the fleet maintenance budget, including parts, labor, and equipment expenses
Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers for parts and services
Conduct ongoing safety training and ensure adherence to all safety standards and protocols
What We’re Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent
Proven experience as a technician, preferably in the waste management or transportation industry
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and overall vehicle maintenance
Familiarity with HVAC systems, emission systems, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components
Leadership experience and the ability to manage and motivate a team
Proficiency with fleet management software and related computer systems
Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure
