Overview
Schmidt Construction, a leader in underground wet utility construction, is looking for an experienced Foreman / Operator to join our team. Since 1979, we’ve been building Idaho’s underground infrastructure with excellence, speed, and pride. We’ve handled some of the toughest jobs in the Treasure Valley - deep sewer mains, high groundwater digs, storm drains, and irrigation systems - and built a reputation for professionalism, honesty, and a robust work ethic.
We’re looking for a Foreman / Operator who can run the iron, manage a crew, and keep jobs moving on time and on spec. This is a hands-on leadership role where your skills in machines and your ability to direct your crew will set the pace for the projects.
Core Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including large excavators for mainline sewer excavation work, dozers, loaders and skid steers, and trucks
- Lead and supervise an underground wet utility crew on active job sites
- Coordinate and direct daily crew activities, including excavation, pipe laying, backfilling, and site prep
- Develop, communicate daily task plans. Ensure work is done on spec, on schedule, and in compliance
- Set trench boxes, shoring, and other protective systems in a safety-compliant manner
- Monitor work progress, perform quality control checks, and address issues as they arise
- Serve as on-site point of contact for the Superintendent, relaying updates, needs, and concerns
- Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance checks, and machinery servicing
- Uphold safety standards. Actively participate in relevant safety meetings and site inspections
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment operation in underground utility or related construction
- Minimum 1 year experience leading, planning, setting daily tasks, coordinating a crew in the field
- Demonstrated skill in technical trenching (mainline sewer, deep digs, high groundwater)
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints, grade stakes, laser levels, and basic drawings
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites in the Treasure Valley
- Strong work ethic, team player mentality, and pride in quality work
Preferred (Not Required)
- CDL Class A
- Certifications such as Trench Safety or OSHA 10/30
Pay & Benefits
- Pay Range: $28-$34 Depending on Experience
