The Nebraska Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is seeking a skilled and experienced GIS Infrastructure Developer – Senior to support the development, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise GIS environments. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of GIS systems through automation, infrastructure monitoring, and collaborative problem-solving. The successful candidate will work closely with internal OCIO teams, vendors, and partner agencies to support the Nebraska Enterprise GIS platform, including Portal for ArcGIS and related components.

Job Duties: Perform daily system checks and ongoing performance monitoring of scripts, databases, virtual machines (VMs), and portal components using diagnostic tools and monitoring utilities. Develop, deploy, document, and maintain Python and other script-based tools to support the GIS platform and enhance system functionality. Communicate with partner agencies regarding change management tickets, system updates, bug fixes, and other technical matters. Collaborate with the OCIO GIS Team to support and maintain the Nebraska Enterprise Portal (Portal for ArcGIS environments). Perform scheduled maintenance and apply security updates to VMs and portal components during and outside of regular business hours. Participate in GIS-related meetings, including internal team discussions, enterprise initiatives, and agency-specific collaborations. Submit and manage support tickets with OCIO teams, vendors, and partner agencies to resolve technical issues and assist in the development of new GIS tools. Respond to emergency callbacks for outages or incidents involving spatial data, and manage support and service tickets as needed. Create and execute SQL queries; provide assistance to agencies with SQL database-related issues. Perform other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned and within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years experience with Portal for ArcGIS
- 3 years experience with Enterprise SQL Databases
- 5 years general GIS experience
Other: Regular and reliable attendance required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy automation tools and scripts using Python, ArcPy, PowerShell, and command-line utilities to support GIS and IT operations. Proficiency in SQL database management, including writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting SQL queries in support of spatial and non-spatial data. Hands-on experience with Esri's GIS platform, including ArcGIS Pro, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and related Python scripting (ArcPy). Working knowledge of cloud-based storage technologies such as AWS FSx and S3, as well as network-attached storage (NAS) systems. Understanding of GIS data publishing workflows, metadata standards, and spatial data governance best practices. Solid foundational knowledge of IT concepts, including virtual machines, system administration, networking, and cybersecurity practices. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and ability to produce clear, comprehensive technical documentation for internal and external users.
