## Teacher
### Job Summary:
Has responsibility for classroom operation plan, organize and implement instructional programs in the Head Start learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.
### Responsibilities:
- Ability to relate well to children
- Be able to work closely with Head Start staff, families and volunteers in an open, considerate and friendly manner, regardless of age, race, creed, or nationality
- Implement Head Start Performance Standards and all other applicable regulations.
- Must effectively manage typical and spontaneous classroom situations. Must have the ability to handle emergency situations with young children and families.
- Prepare a safe, healthy learning environment for children that is developmentally appropriate and predominantly child initiated.
- Actively supervise all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities.
- Plan, prepare and deliver individualized/group lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning, according to their developmental level.
- Ensure that rules and procedures are enforced throughout the program.
- Maintain tracking information on all children and families assigned as to services needed, and problems of the children and families.
- Consult with Family Service workers regarding children and families.
- Encourage and integrate parent participation into daily activities
- Schedule and participate in parent/staff meetings to assess the children’s progress and problems and to plan center activities.
- Supervise and socialize with children at meals, as a curriculum activity, to model good nutrition.
- Keep all areas clean and safe at all times.
- Maintain and submit all required records and reports by designated deadline.
- Continue to improve in all areas as a person through continued education, training opportunities and evaluation recommendations.
- Attend all meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, and conferences as requested by the supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Always maintain strict confidentiality with respect to children, families and staff in accordance with policies and procedures.
Children and families will always come first in this Head Start Program, above all defined duties, perceived responsibilities, and/or personal priorities!
### Qualifications:
- BA in Early Childhood Education or equivalent
- 1 year related experience preferred
### Other Requirements:
- Obtain Basic First Aid and CPR certification
- Physical examination and provide a doctor statement as required by law
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs and occasionally heavier items
- Acceptable tuberculosis screening
- Must pass drug screen and criminal background check
- Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter training
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of early childhood development and implementing developmentally appropriate practice in a preschool classroom is essential.
- Direct experience working with low-income children and families is preferred
