HSE Technician
Position Summary
The HSE Technician is responsible for promoting and assisting in the implementation of all HSE objectives including HSE programs, policies, and procedures with primary emphasis on occupational health and safety. The HSE technician’s principle responsibilities will include monitoring environmental practices and permitting to ensure compliance, assist with job safety analysis (JSA’s) and recommend corrective actions, conduct safety trainings, inspect and maintain safety equipment, assist with proper handling, identification and storage of biohazard and hazardous waste. They will also be involved in internal safety and environmental audits, incident investigations including root cause analysis (RCA) and recommending corrective and preventative measures and tracking safety and training statistics.
The HSE Technician will work with the Facilities team to encourage and enforce a safety culture within the company and be a part of the Emergency Response team (ERT). Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to be successful.
Other key skills and physical requirements:
General knowledge of OSHA regulations, standard safety procedures, and best safe work practices.
Experience creating, editing, and formatting training materials, standard operating procedures and policies.
Self-directed with the ability to appropriately prioritize multiple projects.
Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high-quality work
Ability to build relationships and desire to learn about all aspects of the company.
Ability to pass a respirator fit test.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to safety lift 40 lbs.
Ability to meet manufacturing and laboratory gowning protocols.
Must have a valid driver’s license.- May be required to obtain and maintain a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
Education and Experience
The minimum educational background and qualifications for this position are bachelor’s degree in safety, or other technical discipline (i.e engineering, industrial hygiene, science) or equivalent combination of college course work and practical experience in safety in a manufacturing or multi-functional operation.
Minimum of two years’ experience performing OSHA HSE duties or equivalent education.
Preferred but not required:
General knowledge of behavioral-based safety programs is a plus.
OSHA 40-hour Hazwoper certification.
