The HR Coordinator serves as the Parking & Transportation Services department's primary human resources contact, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. This position supports all HR functions, including hiring, onboarding, personnel management, compliance, and employee relations. The role provides guidance to department leadership, supervisors, and employees on HR-related matters and facilitates efficient HR processes to support departmental operations.
Human Resources Functions:
- Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on HR-related policies, including Worker's Compensation, Family Medical Leave (FML), Paid Parental Leave, and other leave programs.
- Ensure compliance with university HR policies, procedures, and employment laws.
- Maintain personnel records and ensure accurate documentation of employee files.
- Oversee all aspects of hiring and personnel transactions, including new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and salary adjustments.
- Review and verify employment eligibility, including I-9 and Visa requirements.
- Assist in developing and maintaining position descriptions and classification reviews.
- Process personnel transactions in HR systems.
- Provide support to hiring managers for recruitment and hiring processes.
- Prepare HR-related reports on staffing levels, employee certifications, payroll expenditures, and career progression.
- Serve as a liaison between Parking & Transportation Services and central HR, Payroll, and Finance office
Onboarding and Benefits Administration:
- Facilitate employee onboarding and ensure new hires receive all necessary information regarding policies, benefits, and workplace expectations.
- Assist employees with benefits-related inquiries, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave programs.
- Coordinate benefits enrollment and changes in collaboration with the Benefits Office.
- Serve as a resource for employees navigating leave programs, including FML, Paid Parental Leave, and disability accommodations.
Compliance and Employee Relations:
- Provide training to department supervisors on HR-related policies and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with employment-related laws and university guidelines.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and maintain a positive work environment.
- Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, and performance evaluations.
- Represent the department in HR-related committees and university meetings.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma and 5 years of relevant HR experience OR
- Associate's degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field with 1 year of HR experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and employment laws.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of payroll processes and HR systems (SAP, Oracle, TALEO, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with HR and payroll software (IRIS/SAP, TALEO, KRONOS, Oracle/DASH).
- Prior knowledge of University of Tennessee HR policies and procedures.
