Homies - Supportive Roommate Opportunity

Share a Home. Change a Life.
Homies is a life-sharing program that matches adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with supportive, live-in mentors who help create homes built on trust, connection, and growth.
This isn’t a typical caregiving job—it’s a lifestyle rooted in mutual respect and shared living. As a live-in Independent Living Mentor, you’ll provide support with everyday routines, personal goals, and community connection—while living together in a home that works for you both.
What Makes This Role Unique
- You live in the same home as the person you support
- You can move into a shared home or welcome someone into yours (if you have a 2+ bedroom space)
- You’re not on-call 24/7—you live your life alongside theirs, with supportive structure
- You’ll be matched based on compatibility and shared lifestyle values
- This is a contractor role designed to fit within your current job, school, or personal commitments
Your Role Includes:
- Supporting daily routines like meals, shopping, or appointments
- Encouraging social connection, hobbies, and independent decision-making
- Helping implement personal goals and behavior strategies
- Collaborating with their support circle and participating in regular team check-ins
- Maintaining daily documentation and attending trainings

You’re someone who:
- Is passionate about inclusion, mentorship, and relationship-based support
- Has experience with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or behavioral support

- Values home life, healthy boundaries, and helping others grow through consistency and care
- Is open to a shared living arrangement grounded in mutual respect and choice
What You’ll Need
- At least 1 year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral needs
- Valid CA driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance
- CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to certify)
- DOJ/FBI background clearance, TB test, and basic health screening
- Willingness to complete training (including 12 hours annually)
Compensation & Support
- Up to $50,000/year tax-free (equivalent to ~$60,000 pre-tax)
- Flexible, contractor role that works with your schedule
- Live where you choose in California
- Ongoing support from the Homies team, including: Monthly check-ins, Personalized training opportunities, & Coaching and mentorship to help you grow in your role
- Be part of a values-driven movement toward shared lives and thriving communities
This is more than housing. It’s more than a job. It’s a shared life—one that helps someone thrive, and brings something deeper to yours.
