Manages the Infection Prevention Department and coordinates Infection Prevention and Control programs.
Essential Function
- Performs an annual Infection Prevention Risk Assessment and develops a system-wide Infection Prevention and Control Program Plan.
- Designs the surveillance program for healthcare associated infections based upon the Infection Prevention Risk Assessment and regulatory agency (The Joint Commission, CMS, MADPH) standards.
- Develops the methodology for surveillance-associated infection utilizing CDC NHSN criteria and benchmarks. Conducts ongoing surveillance of infections in patients and personnel.
- Keeps accurate records of all infections; complies and interprets surveillance data.
- Complies monthly information and presents Infection Reports to the environment of Care Committee.
- Identifies and promptly reports significant occurrence of infections in patients and personnel to the physician and implements his/her recommendations for prevention/control.
- Submits Quarterly Reports about nosocomial infections and other infection control issues to quarterly improvement committee. Analyzes data and develops collective actions.
- Works with employee health service on following up of all infections in hospital personnel; assists in development of employee health programs.
- Notifies designated medical and administrative staff members and appropriate health department authorities of all reportable communicable diseases. Oversees the reporting process to the CDC NHSN of healthcare associated infections.
- Responsible for overseeing confidential HIV risk assessment and access to counseling and testing staff and client HIV/AIDS and hepatitis education and department requirements for admission service planning and discharge of HIV positive clients.
- Collect and analyze relevant information and present data to appropriate staff/committees.
- Services as a resource to leadership, physicians, and staff on issues regarding infection prevention and control.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, MSN strongly preferred
- Current RN Massachusetts License,
- 5 yrs. RN experience.
- 2 yrs. psychiatric nursing experience.
- 2 yrs. Experience management of the Infection Prevention Department.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.
