The Inmate Programs Coordinator is a civilian role responsible for development, recruitment, retention and coordination of volunteers, and programs for the Corrections Department. Schedules and conducts volunteer orientation, training, and assignment of volunteers to meet the goals of the department. Aides in the planning, scheduling, and assigning of volunteers for inmate programs. Assists the Inmate Programs Supervisor as needed.

Essential Job Functions

Primary duties include recruitment, training, coordination, and retention of volunteers, and community organizations, to meet the objectives of inmate programming. Coordinates efforts to effectively increase educational, behavioral and vocational programs. Maintains directives, manuals, and protocols associated with volunteers, and the Corrections Department. Performs work which involves interaction with the inmate population. Requires tactful and courteous communications with the inmate population. Assists with implementation of the programs by establishing partnerships with community organizations, volunteers and the Department of Education. Assists with the development and planning of new and existing programs. Schedules volunteer participation to ensure proper staffing. Assists in preparing required paperwork and answers inmate requests. Maintains inventories and supplies for volunteers and inmates, including materials, and literature for associated programs. Uses data management software and other resources to gather, track, and maintain detailed information and statistics regarding inmate programs, including creating reports as needed. Utilizes compiled information to evaluate and refine programs and services. Requires bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing. Performs related work as required.

  • Must exhibit good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read for comprehension.
  • Must be able to teach and speak effectively before groups of people.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Ability to bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, reach and climb. Work location is the correctional facility in Land O' Lakes.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and four (4) years' of experience providing community, educational, rehabilitative, or counseling services including responsibility for planning and implementing programs and coordinating with community resources OR an Associate degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years' of experience providing community, educational, rehabilitative, or counseling services including responsibility for planning and implementing programs and coordinating with community resources.

In House Employees: This position qualifies for DAP.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
