Betty Shabazz International Charter School (BSICS) is looking to hire music teachers for the 2025-26 school year with an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed in Music OR who have passed the Music content test.
Established in 1998, BSICS is a network comprised of two K-8 Chicago elementary campuses. Our Betty Shabazz Academy campus is located at 7823 S. Ellis Ave in Chatham. Our Barbara A. Sizemore Academy campus is located at 6547 S. Stewart Ave in Englewood.
Our academic model incorporates history, achievement and culture as well as community service and character development into all aspects of our rigorous curriculum, school routines and physical environments. As a result, daily, our students are taught that with historical understanding, culture, community, planning, proper values, discipline, and individual and collective work they can overcome any challenge, academically excel and become transformational, next generation, global leaders.
Specifically, we are seeking to hire music teachers responsible for fostering a positive and stimulating learning environment where students can explore their musical talents, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate an appreciation for a variety of musical forms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, a genuine love for working with young children, and the ability to inspire creativity in students.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive and age-appropriate music curriculum that aligns with the school's educational goals and meets state standards for elementary education.
2. Music Instruction: Deliver engaging and interactive music lessons to students covering a range of genres, styles and techniques.
3. Skill Development: Guide students in developing their musical skills, including creativity, expression, composition and perspective.
4. Music History and Appreciation: Introduce students to various musicians, music movements, music history and diverse music traditions.
5. Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel encouraged and supported in their musical endeavors.
6. Individualized Instruction: Recognize and address the unique learning needs of students, providing individualized support and encouragement to help them reach their potential.
7. Student Assessment: Evaluate and assess students' knowledge of music and musical progress regularly, providing constructive feedback to guide their growth and development.
8. Collaboration: Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and parents to integrate music with other subjects and participate in school-wide events and initiatives.
9. Music Displays and Events: Organize and showcase student musical works at school and in the community.
10. Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in music education through professional development opportunities, workshops, and conferences.
