Position Summary
As an Irrigation Technician, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to enhance and maintain outdoor spaces. This role involves physical labor and the ability to work in various weather conditions. You will work under the supervision of a landscaping foreman or a supervisor, contributing to the overall appearance and functionality of residential, commercial, or public landscapes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Planting and Mulching:
a. Assist in planting flowers, trees, and shrubs.
b. Prepare soil for planting by cultivating, raking, and grading.
c. Ensure proper soil amendments and fertilization to promote healthy plant growth.
d. Spread mulch to control weed growth and improve soil health.
e. Collaborate with team members to implement soil erosion control measures.
- Irrigation System Installation and Maintenance:
a. Assist in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
b. Adjust and repair sprinklers, valves, controllers, backflow preventers, and flow sensors as needed.
- Sod Installation
a. Assist in planting sod and grass seeds to establish lawns.
b. Prepare soil for planting by cultivating, raking, and grading.
c. Ensure proper soil amendments and fertilization to promote healthy grass growth.
- Equipment Operation
a. Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and blowers, mini skid steers, skid steers, excavators, and tractors.
b. Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working order.
- Hardscape Installation
a. Assist in the installation of hardscape elements such as patios, walkways, and retaining walls.
b. Support the construction of outdoor structures and features according to design specifications.
c. Clean and maintain hardscape surfaces such as patios and walkways.
- Grounds Maintenance
a. Mow lawns using push or riding mowers.
b. Trim and edge around walkways, flower beds, and walls.
c. Prune and trim trees, bushes, and hedges.
d. Remove weeds and unwanted vegetation.
e. Install and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants.
- Safety and Compliance
a. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
b. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
c. Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly.
d. Participate in safety training programs and maintain a safe work environment.
e. Comply with safety regulations and a maintaining clean and orderly facility.
f. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bringing problems to the attention of the Foreman, Safety Director or HR Manager.
- Team Collaboration:
a. Work closely with the landscaping team to achieve project goals efficiently.
b. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks.
c. Read and interpret safety/employment manuals and other work-related documents.
d. Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment as needed.
e. Maintaining a clean job site; picking up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
f. Perform required light maintenance of equipment.
g. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
- Client Interaction:
a. Interact professionally with clients and address their concerns.
b. Provide information on landscaping services when required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
· Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
· Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
· Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
· Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
· Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
· Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
· Strong work ethic and reliability.
· Ability to work well in a team and follow directions.
· Effective communication skills.
· Reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
· Previous experience in landscaping or related field.
· Knowledge of basic landscaping techniques and equipment operation.
· Certification in landscaping or related field.
· First Aid/CPR certification.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Ability to use and maintain equipment and tools properly and safely.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50 - $20.00 per hour
