About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Medical Physicist to join a progressive and collaborative team in Newport News, Virginia. This position offers the chance to work in a technologically advanced environment while driving clinical excellence and innovation in radiation oncology. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience, is ABR-certified, and demonstrates deep knowledge of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and Gamma Knife technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct physics consultation with radiation oncologists and neurosurgeons.
- Design treatment plans for stereotactic programs including SRS and SBRT.
- Oversee patient-specific QA processes and all SBRT/SRS simulations and treatments.
- Coordinate imaging, calibration, quality control, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Perform quality assurance for radiation oncology equipment including:
- Eclipse Treatment Planning
- Varian EDGE Linacs
- Elekta Gamma Knife (Icon / Esprit)
- Siemens CT Simulator
- Sun Nuclear QA tools
- Lead or support performance improvement initiatives in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Mentor junior physicists and support clinical leadership.
- Contribute to operational efficiency, budgeting, and quality improvement.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of clinical medical physics experience in radiation therapy.
- ABR certification (or Part 2 completion with path to certification).
- Extensive experience with Elekta Gamma Knife Icon (Esprit experience a plus).
- Proficiency in SRS, SBRT, QA, and advanced imaging protocols.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
