Mid-sized downtown Dallas law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Litigation Paralegal. Prior experience of personal injury is strongly preferred. This position will work closely with their attorneys from the beginning of a case through conclusion.
The job responsibilities include preparing for civil litigation filings, depositions, hearings, trials and conferences, investigating facts and researching legal precedents. This is a senior role requiring a polished professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is detail oriented, and works well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hands-on litigation paralegal role and must have experience with document review, trial preparation, handling discovery, drafting legal documents, and managing case documents.
Responsibilities
Manage case files independently from filing of Answer to conclusion of case at trial.
Investigate case facts. Prepare chronologies for cases. Prepare large document productions; sometimes manage outside vendors on occasionally outsourced projects.
Assist attorneys with drafting and cite checking legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, motions, subpoenas, and discovery. An ability to prepare initial substantive drafts of pleadings and discovery documents (not just shells) for attorney review is essential.
Manage case schedule and calendar. Communicate with courts, clients and/or opposing counsel on case matters, including scheduling depositions.
Assist attorneys with discovery phase, including discovery requests, issuing subpoenas, and preparing for depositions.
Assist with document production and review through various platforms.
Assist with depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Possess outstanding organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of Federal and Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.
Experience with Texas electronic filing, trial preparation and support, complex file management, discovery, and organizing large document productions using an online platform.
Possess strong project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet sometimes aggressive deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
Thorough attention to details and ability to follow up effectively on outstanding items.
Ability to produce high quality, error-free work product in a fast-paced, deadline sensitive environment.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and litigation document software.
Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week as caseload demands, occasionally working evenings and/or weekends to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of five years’ experience in personal injury is strongly preferred.
A college degree in Paralegal Studies or an equivalent field and/or a paralegal certificate from an ABA approved program or accredited institution is preferred.
