Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Technician to join our growing team for a major retrofit project in a large office building in downtown Phoenix. The successful candidate will play a critical role in upgrading our access control system and supporting fire alarm and life safety systems during tenant improvement (TI) construction.
This role involves hands-on field work: installing and servicing Ubiquiti Access Control, electromagnetic door locks, fire alarm components, and low voltage cabling (CAT6) across multiple floors and suites. Ideal candidates have a background in retrofits, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work efficiently in active commercial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Retrofit and upgrade access control systems using Ubiquiti UniFi Access, including controllers, readers, and mobile credentials.
- Install, service, and test electromagnetic door locks, strikes, and relays.
- Assist with fire alarm and life safety systems during tenant improvement (TI) projects, including installing and relocating:
- Smoke detectors
- Horn/strobes and speakers
- Pull stations
- Run, terminate, and test CAT6 cabling for access control and life safety infrastructure.
- Ensure all work complies with NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire/building codes.
- Read and interpret floor plans, riser diagrams, and wiring schematics.
- Collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and property managers to deliver work on time and with minimal disruption.
- (Preferred) Support Simplex fire alarm control panel configuration and troubleshooting.
- Maintain accurate job records and redline drawings for final documentation
Qualifications
Required:
- Hands-on low voltage installation experience.
- Proven ability to work on commercial retrofits and tenant improvement projects.
- Expertise with Ubiquiti Access Control systems or similar platforms.
- Experience with electromagnetic locks, access control power supplies, and door hardware.
- Familiarity with fire alarm device installation and mounting standards.
- High proficiency in CAT6 cable routing, termination, and testing.
- Strong understanding of code compliance and inspection preparation.
- Ability to work independently, solve field challenges, and communicate clearly.
- Valid driver’s license and clean background.
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of Simplex FACP or other commercial fire alarm panels.
- NICET certification, OSHA 10/30, or low voltage license (if applicable).
- Experience coordinating with GCs, electricians, and city inspectors.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in ceiling spaces, and navigate active job sites.
- Comfortable working in finished and unfinished commercial spaces.
- Occasional overtime, weekends, or off-hours required to meet project schedules.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
