LOWBOY TRUCK DRIVER
The Lowboy Truck Driver is a skilled driver position whose primary function is to safely load, secure, and transport heavy construction and excavation equipment by truck and trailer from one location to another, and then safely unload the equipment as directed. The heavy equipment includes, but is not limited to, oversize and wide loads, excavators, backhoes, dozers, loaders, rollers, smaller trucks, and other similar construction or excavating machinery.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
● Responsible for the transportation of and safe loading and unloading of heavy excavation equipment.
● Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip checks for truck and trailer. This includes, but is not limited to, checking fluid levels, and inspecting for leaks, damage, or non-operable equipment prior to operation.
● Safely operate heavy construction and excavation equipment to load and unload the equipment at various locations and job sites.
● Responsible to notify the Shop if vehicle or trailer needs repair.
● Communicate effectively with Dispatch, DHM job site management, and with other DHM employees regarding moving and handling of the equipment.
● Must maintain a clean driving record and CSA record.
● Drive the truck and trailer in a safe manner to and from assigned destination.
● Adhere and comply with all local, state, and federal traffic regulations and speed limits, as well as DHM company policies.
● Adapt in a safe manner according to changing road conditions, weather conditions, and traffic pattern changes.
● Full-time position with OT hours.
Requirements:
● Valid Class A CDL.
● Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification.
● Tanker Endorsement, or ability to obtain this endorsement.
● Minimum 2 years verifiable experience transporting heavy construction equipment.
● Must have a good MVR – driving record.
● Be familiar with overweight permitting and route planning. Able to calculate weights of equipment with truck/trailer combo to comply with DOT permitting restrictions and guidelines.
● Knowledge of, and experience with, FMCSA cargo securement rules and restrictions for heavy equipment.
● Familiarity with the tri-state area, PA, MD & WV, is a plus.
● Knowledge of USDOT & FMCSA safety regulations and comply with these regulations.
● Capable of working independently and following through on instructions.
● Must be available to work early morning hours Monday through Friday, as well as OT hours.
● Experience with oversize and wide load hauling on both interstate highways and rural roadways.
● Must be able to drive a manual transmission with no restrictions.
● Experience driving in all types of weather including cold weather conditions such as snow and ice.
● Critical thinker and problem solver.
● Able to read, write, comprehend, and interpret simple instructions in English.
