Job Title: Machine Shop Manager
Summary: A high-level Machine Shop Manager oversees all aspects of a machine shop's operations, focusing on quoting, production efficiency, quality control, employee management, and overall departmental performance. This role requires a strong technical understanding of machining processes and a proven track record of successful leadership and problem-solving. The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring the shop operates effectively, meets production goals, maintains high safety standards, and aligns with company objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management: Manage manufacturing operations, including planning, directing, coordinating, and overseeing day-to-day activities to meet production schedules and optimize resource allocation. Monitor and improve key metrics like safety, productivity, quality, and on-time delivery. Ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor shop employees, fostering a positive work environment and managing performance, including hiring, training, and development.
- Quality Control and Continuous Improvement: Oversee quality control processes, implement quality management systems, and drive continuous improvement initiatives based on principles like Lean Manufacturing.
- Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Inventory and Budget Management: Manage inventory levels and the shop budget, focusing on cost control and making recommendations for equipment.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure a safe working environment and enforce safety protocols and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate Manual and CNC milling machines and other related equipment to produce high-quality parts.
- Experience with ProtoTRAK CNC mill is a plus.
- Experience operating a Doosan 5700 or a machine with a Fanuc 10M controller is a bonus.
- 5-10 years of experience in a machine shop environment with a focus on leadership.
- Experience leading teams.
- In-depth knowledge of machining processes and related technical concepts.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with relevant estimating, CAD and programming software.
Responsibilities
- Operate Manual and CNC milling machines and other related equipment to produce high-quality parts.
- Experience with ProtoTRAK CNC mill is a plus.
- Experience operating a Doosan 5700 or a machine with a Fanuc 10M controler is a bonus.
- Set up tooling and fixtures for machining operations.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy.
- Assemble machined components as required.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production.
- Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively to fabricate parts as needed.
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to optimize production processes and reduce waste.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
