Summary:

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. In addition, the Manager Clinical Operations prescribes, delegates, coordinates, supervises and evaluates patient teaching and the activities of the ancillary nursing personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. Able to demonstrate leadership in shift change responsibility. Can provide direct and indirect care to patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies staff who needs assistance in completion of nursing assessment and provides appropriate support.
  • Acts as resource to assure accurate completion of assessment documentation.
  • Helps other staff members to develop calm, caring attitude and to avert perceived problems.
  • Facilitates a timely discharge.
  • Teaches patient/family based on individualized needs.
  • Assists peers in identifying and documenting patient response to nursing action.
  • Evaluates and documents patient progress towards stated goals and objectives.
  • Uses supplies and equipment appropriately; documents use in the medical record and records charges appropriately.
  • Follows nursing policy and procedure in administration of medications, Recognizes and responds to overt medication reactions. Reports errors promptly.
  • Complies with timekeeping system. Accrues no unexcused absences, and no more than three unscheduled absences.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in the day to day activities of the department, by using good judgment and decision making.
  • Communicates with physicians in a collaborative manner.
  • Follows hospital and/or department policy for dress and personal hygiene.
  • Follows necessary safety precautions, hospital policies, and department policies.
  • Attends infection control and safety programs.
  • Follows the CHRISTUS Health Guidelines related to the health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Associate timely completes all required educational requirements.
  • Identifies normal and abnormal parameters in the patient’s physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs.
  • Consistently recognizes changes in physiological, psychological, cultural, development and spiritual needs.
  • Interventions are based on the identification of changing patient needs.
  • Identifies the patient and family stages in the grieving process. Allows opportunity for individual to express and receive support in the grieving process (i.e. notifies clergy)
  • Seeks out new learning experiences.
  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses. Establishes goals with guidance.
  • Contributes to learning experiences of students/orientees by sharing information, explaining nursing interventions and/or demonstrating hospital procedures.
  • Participates in unit quality improvement process. Completes monitors independently and in a timely manner. Identifies and reports problems that interfere with effective functioning to the Regional Director.
  • Participates in 80% of prescribed inservice programs and departmental meetings. When unable to attend (20% max) follows up to obtain information discussed.
  • Assumes management role. Supports and implements hospital’s philosophy of care. Performs and completes managerial duties necessary to the department and hospital as directed by the Administration may include: a) mandatory competencies; b) evaluations of staff; c) mandatory requirements; d) QA, ex. CQL)
  • Follows up on and evaluates assigned tasks to ensure optimal delivery of care. Maximizes use of available manpower when assignment changes are needed during shift.
  • Ensures rounds are made to verify that all patients are receiving appropriate care.
  • Monitors staff’s ability to manage patient care problems and provides guidance and support when needed.
  • Reviews all budget preparation with Administration order to learn process and to have working knowledge of budget content.
  • Meets education requirements through hospital and other agency programs. Completes CE’s as required per license.
  • In collaboration with Administration, conduct monthly departmental meetings.
  • Maintains all patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Creates and maintains weekly, monthly scheduled for associates.
  • Effectively problems solves with Physician staff.
  • Effectively assigns and delegates responsibilities to staff.
  • Works directly with Regional Director to maintain productivity standards.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Graduate of a state board accredited school of nursing or equivalent or Radiology Technician Program

Experience

  • Four (4) years experience in their respective field

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of New Mexico (if a RN) or New Mexico License as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • CPR required.
  • Medication competence within two weeks of employment. Computer competence within four weeks of employment
