Job Description:
The Transportation Operations Manager II oversees all day-to-day operations for their assigned area or region. This position manages and directs transportation services to include pick-up and delivery of all needed materials, supplies, equipment, medications, specimens, lines, etc. This position is responsible for the successful implementation of system initiatives and continuous improvement programs throughout their assigned area including the monitoring and utilization of key performance indicators associated with projects. This position plans, organizes, directs, and staffs to maintain and improve functions.Essential Functions
- TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT: Oversees day-to-day operations of transportation activities for assigned departments, clinical programs, and facility(s). Is accountable for the timely and efficient transportation of all supplies and services in all assigned teams and departments. Oversees safety, DOT compliance, process standardization, and budget controls. Ensures compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and utilizes processes, reports, and other tools on a routine basis. Ensures that staff is trained and certified in applicable system. Actively works with departments or service lines to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
- CLIENT RELATIONS: Works with departments or service lines to support transportation and logistics needs including timeliness, service levels, and regulatory requirements to achieve optimal outcomes and patient and caregiver safety. Works with members of the medical staff, front-line caregivers, peers, patients, and the public to resolve problems and find opportunities to improve processes and workflow. These partnerships include but are not limited to laboratory services, pharmacy, materials management, linen services, asset management, asset recovery, etc. Manages and oversees a portfolio of 500 to 1000 diverse customers including internal and external partners.
- PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: Manages department staffing, training, work planning, and scheduling. Uses dashboards and huddle boards to keep staff informed about their daily activities. Oversees staff selection, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, and development. Conducts performance appraisals, provides coaching, and addresses performance issues. Develops and reviews performance standards. Leads productive staff meetings and ensures the team meets department goals. Values individual and team development. Manages an assigned market or region and leads a team of Transportation Customer Service Spec. I, DOT regulated Transportation Customer Service Spec. II, Transportation Coordinator I and/or II caregivers, and supervisors.
- EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT: Manages and oversees the maintenance, repair, and replacement of transportation equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and works with vendors for equipment needs. Tracks equipment performance, keeps accurate records, and trains staff on safe equipment usage. Manages and oversees a fleet of up to 50 vehicles including all vehicle types, from light duty vehicles up to heavy-duty DOT regulated trucks up to 26,000 lbs.
- CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Works to identify opportunities to improve efficiency in logistics activities for stakeholders. Supports operational cost containment by participating in or leading work groups or teams. Understands how to measure and improve efficiency and effectiveness of the SCO workflow and processes by engaging in the continuous improvement program.
- LEADERSHIP: Leads and orchestrates the efforts of leaders and programs to achieve operational excellence. This involves setting clear objectives, providing direction and support, monitoring progress, and ensuring all activities are in harmony with the organization's mission and goals.
- COMMUNICATION: Proactively and effectively communicates with directors, managers, suppliers, clinical/non-clinical program leadership, and lab personnel leading other clinical and non-clinical teams.
- LOGISTCS: Manages the centralized dispatching function to ensure seamless coordination and efficiency supporting the enterprise-wide transportation operation. Manages dispatching activities, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and timely delivery of services. Train, mentor, and support dispatch team members to foster a high-performing and cohesive team.
- STRATEGY: Transforms high-level strategies into detailed, actionable plans for their department, aligning resources and activities to achieve these objectives.
- SAFETY: Ensures that systems, tools, and processes are organized and implemented in a safe and effective manner. Supports system safety programs and works to ensure zero harm initiatives are used to reduce or eliminate caregiver injuries.
- FINANCE/BUDGET: Is responsible for the department budget to ensure financial viability. Understands and monitors key performance indicators and expenses to assure optimal cost to serve. Pursues cost containment or revenue generating ideas, programs, and equipment opportunities. Ensures that transportation workflows are optimized through the appropriate use of systems, tools, processes, and staff to provide the lowest total cost to service for our customers. Manages and oversees a customer stop volume of 20,000 to 40,000 stops per month, ensuring efficient and timely deliveries while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- ADMINISTRATION CONTROL: Represents the SCO in collaborating with facility leaders. Participates in and supports meetings, huddles, committees, or other initiatives that benefit from SCO presence or services. Ensures transportation compliance with Federal, Safety, Legal, Facility or SCO regulations, laws, or other requirements. Effectively participates in and leads Error-Prevention Techniques for the department to ensure that services provided are safe and effective in meeting caregiver needs.

Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with no restrictions
- A valid DOT Medical Card
- Demonstrated transportation industry specific work experience
- Demonstrated logistics, transportation, supply chain or operations leadership experience.
- Experience in a role requiring the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, and to meet deadlines.
- Experience in a role requiring the ability to communicate, teach, train, coach, and lead by example.
- Computer experience including working knowledge of basic tools such as spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, etc.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in a role requiring strong attention to detail, accuracy, and dependability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. (Degree will be verified)
- Five years of transportation industry specific work experience
- Four years logistics, transportation, supply chain or operations leadership experience.
- Experience and knowledge in medical transportation.
- Five years of supervisory or management experience in medical transportation.
