Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting providers by preparing Veterans for their C&P exams and ensuring efficient clinic operations. This non-treatment, evaluation-based position requires exceptional professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of HIPAA and VA protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and check in Veterans in a respectful, professional manner
- Collect and verify Veteran information and ensure completion of required documentation
- Accurately measure and record vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature)
- Assist providers with exam room setup and transitions between appointments
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms in accordance with infection control protocols
- Document findings in the electronic health record (EHR) per clinical workflow and training
- Provide basic routine diagnostic testing such as PFTs, ECGs and venipunctures.
- Maintain and stock supplies, monitor inventory, and notify management of shortages
- Ensure PHI confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
- Report any patient concerns or unusual findings to the provider or supervisor immediately
- Participate in team meetings and quality assurance processes
- Provide administrative support as needed (e.g., scanning, faxing, scheduling assistance)
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program (AAMA, NHA, NCCT, or equivalent)
- Active CMA certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHRs) and basic computer systems
Preferred:
- Experience working in a veteran healthcare setting
- Familiarity with C&P exams, VA documentation standards, or disability evaluations
- Military or veteran family background is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Fine motor skills for clinical measurement tasks
- Adequate visual and hearing acuity to interact safely with Veterans and staff
